221  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Striped dress for friend's wedding on: March 24, 2011 08:20:25 PM

This was my first attempt at making a dress for my daugther (as far as serious clothing goes, we've been making costumes forever).  I didn't use a pattern, I just made the easy circle skirt and halter top.  It tied behind the neck.  It had a zipper up the back, I wasn't totally pleased with it, it still ended up looking 'wavy'.  She really liked it though and wanted to wear it all the time.

That jacket is awesome.  I've wore the same old crappy fleece hoodie all winter, I think I'm gonna be on the lookout for jacket sales so I can make something like this, although it'll never turn as this good!  I love it.

Agreed with the blue coat love.  I would wear that in a heartbeat.  It's so cute!

I use duct tape for my denim quilts.  I take duct tape and wrap it sticky side out on both of my hands and just pat away.  It seems to work really well, except on the longer strings.

I'm using the Cathedral Window to make a denim quilt, just turn the circles inside out, throw a square in the middle, and stitch around the edges.  It's looking really neat. I'm kinda loosely stitching around the edges so it will fray a bit.
226  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Discussion and Questions / Cowl dress for curves on: June 01, 2010 01:28:37 PM

I'm so pleased to finally have a question to ask!  I've been lurking and found some great ideas on here, ya'll are an imaginative group!

I've got a wedding to attend and nothing to wear (surprise, surprise).  I've tried on dresses until I'm absolutely sick and despairing of finding anything to wear.  I've been looking around and was taken with this cowl dress pattern - http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/cowl-dress-cowl-top

Has anyone had any luck with this type of dress?  This pattern is waaay too small, but looks fairly simple to draft my own.  I... guess I'm an hourglass, my boobs and hips are roughly the same size, with a generous badonkadonk.  I'm about 5'8, short waisted, with a 34 inch inseam.  If anyone has made this, how did it wear/drape/fit/look?  Is it feasible for a curvy girl to wear?  Any tips, tricks, or suggestions?  The fabric I've pulled from my stash is a knit, white with a large black and red flower print, I'd pair with black strappy heels.

Thanks so much.

I just watched the tutorial over at Threadbangers and I'm planning to get all over this one.  I shall call it my "Sh*tter's full" hat in honor of Cousin Eddie!
