31  Black cardholder in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by iolite88 on: February 22, 2005 11:08:34 PM
I am a clumsy person who hate carrying coins around (they always mysteriously appear in pockets of my trousers - only after laundry  Tongue), but I could never remember where I put the store-value smart card. So I got 2 options:

  • hunting for my smart card in the purse and all the pockets on my clothes whenever I board a bus and blocked the long line behind me; or
  • finding some way to keep my smart card and other trinkets organized

This is option two, snipped out of the fabric I bought for purse making...

2 pockets: 1 for my oil-blotting paper and 1 for the smartcard. Added a ribbon at the middle to conceal the unflattering wrongside as lining would make the tiny stuff too thick. The pic did not show a small ring attached to the ribbon and peeked out at the side.  I used some leather strap necklace stuff and 2 clasps to attach this to my purse.

Added a ruffled elastic for closure.

I am so flattered! Um... Actually I did the whole thing by taping pieces of paper together and draw a 1:1 "map" of my crazy collection with the depth of each pocket marked down.  I was, and still am, not good at sewing, so maybe you or other talented crafters could suggest some method to do it in a smarter way (and do bear with my English ^_^):

What I have done:

The cardboard tray was simply attached with velcro and not as sturdy as I wanted it to be, so I am not putting that here.

That's why I claim to be an "addict" ^_^b

33  Cosmetics hanger **Mini-tutorial added** in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by iolite88 on: January 24, 2005 10:58:44 AM
Having lurking around for a while, I am finally posting my first message  Grin.  Awesome group of talented people here!

A couple of years ago I did this cosmetics hanger thing to organize my array of cosmetics & tools as I lived in a tiny tiny apartment with my family.  I got the idea from the IKEA sofa pockets for remote control, but couldn't find any designed for small items.  Therefore I put my stuff on the fabric and used the fabric's pattern as gridlines to design my own. There's no sewing machine around so I had to hand sew the whole thing.

Basically it is just a wide band of fabric folded in half with lots of pockets attached.  It hangs on the wall behind my room's door to make use of that small gap and the full-length mirror attached to the door.  I knew nothing about choosing a sturdy material or using interface, so it deformed a bit due to all that weight.  So far I find it quite convenient except when I need to clear the dust off some unused pencils, and when someone attempts to open my door when I am putting on the eyeliner...

The upper half:

Obviously I am so in love with the concealers that they outnumbered my foundations...

The lower half:

3/F: mascaras, eyeshadows and liners
2/F: lippies
1/F: blushes and lipbalms

And there's a large back pocket at the bottom, where I keep some cotton pads & Q-tips for makeup disastors, and yes that's my razor aka "oh-no-missed-a-spot-when-I-shaved-my-legs rescue tool" peeking out at the bottom left corner...  Tongue
