1  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Baby (or cat) sling! on: September 21, 2006 10:44:21 AM
One of my friends just found out that she is pregnant, so I began plotting out all of the things that I can make for her and the baby!  Last night I whipped up this super-easy baby sling.  It seriously took about half an hour.  Thing is, though, I don't have any babies readily available to test out what I make.  So I improvised.... a cat is relatively the same size and weight as a baby, right?  Right?!

Lucky for me the little guy loves to have his picture taken!  Anyway, here's a link to the tutorial that I used to make the sling:

Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders"
list and will not allow those members to participate: YES

Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

+ This swap is a celebration of Earth Day, so you will make one crafty item from mostly recycled, reused, renewed, reclaimed materials.  (I say mostly because its okay if things like thread, glue, etc. are new.)

+ Crafty items that promote Earth Day or the 3 Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle!) or nature are a plus; for instance you could make a tote bag out of pants you dont wear anymore, cut up your old green t-shirt and sew on a tree appliqu.

+ You must ship by April 15 so that we will have our crafts in time to show them off on Earth Day (April 22).  This gives you nearly a month of craft time.  Get creative and have fun!
+ If you live in the USA and are sending to someone else in the USA, you should obtain a DC#, and let me & your partner know what it is when you send. If you don't live in the USA and/or are sending overseas, and there's no affordable form of tracking, keep your receipt as proof in case it gets lost.

+ I will be checking in on you around the 7th of April.

+ When you sign up & are approved, please post a message in this thread so that I know you'll be getting the updates etc.

If you want to participate, please send me a pm with the following questionnaire and also Earth Day Swap in the subject line:

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Earth Day/Recycled Swap! on: February 23, 2006 08:46:24 AM
I had an idea... what about a swap for Earth Day, featuring crafts that are made from recycled/reclaimed/reused materials?  For instance, bags made from old clothing you don't wear anymore, wallets made from your old magazines, sock monkeys, etc, etc.  There is a wealth of ideas for recycled crafting right here on craftster and it might be a neat way for us diy'ers to celebrate the holiday in our own, unique ways.

Whadda you think?
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Elementary school style super-duper Valentine's Day gift bags! Yeah! on: February 02, 2006 10:50:35 AM
For Valentine's Day my sister and I decided to take it back to the third grade when our teachers had us bring in a brown lunch bag, decorate it, and then tape it to the fronts of our desks, to be filled by all the kiddies in our class.  So, I bought some paper bags, rented a movie, and we crafted our hearts out, we even used red glitter!!  The bags came out pretty corny, which I like!  We filled them with candy and homemade Valentine's Day cards, complete with cheesey sayings.  It was a fun project, super easy, and it was nice to make V-Day fairly platonic, like it used to be when we were eight.   Grin

Sorry about how blue these pics came out, my husband adjusted the white balance on our camera and I forgot to change it.... I don't live in a morgue, I swear!!

Here's a front view of two of the bags:

And a top view of some of them:

6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / My handmade wedding invitations! on: January 26, 2005 06:36:30 AM
I originally posted this project in the paper crafts section, but someone suggested I post them here too...  I looked around for wedding invitations, but couldn't find anything that really *felt* right.  So, being the crafty woman that I am, I decided to make them!  It ended up being a very gratifying project, not to mention inexpensive.  The bottom panel of the invite is a removable RSVP card, complete with a SASE!

The coolest part about the invites?  My mother-in-law liked them so much that she had hers framed and gave it to my husband and me as a wedding gift!    Wink

8  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Origami Book Necklace! on: January 20, 2005 08:51:53 AM
So, I've been cruising this site and the web at large for ideas and tutorials on jewelry made out of origami shapes.  And I have found this very weird, but very cool tutorial on how to make an Origami Book Necklace.  What is an origami book necklace, you ask?  Well, here's the link:

It's cool, but wacky!  So, my question is does anyone out there know of any origami jewelry projects, or what have you...?  Or any ideas for such a project...?
