31  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Scottish Rag Doll Lassies! on: June 20, 2011 12:30:31 PM
Hi everyone,

I just finished up making two little Scottish rag dolls for a local gift shop. I wasn't sure how they were going to turn out (as tartan isn't really my favourite thing!) but I think that they came out not too bad. I thought I would let you have a look and see what you think..

Oh my Goodness, I never thought I would say this sentence, but Meatloaf is so cute! Aww, they're all cute. Alexz/Alice looks so happy, but then so would I be if I were surrounded by such loveable little creatures..

I hope that you had a great birthday...I love the idea of making yourself some presents, I must do that when mine comes around too!

Beautiful work as always - you're so talented and it always makes me smile to see your pictures Shocked)

Wow, the gangster suit is amazing - you've done a great job! I so admire people that can make miniature outfits for their dolls (I just wrap and sew mine and hope for the best!!) and Leo's is one of the best I've seen. I love them both xx

Thank you very much!

 Are the faces painted on?

The faces are drawn on, mainly with watercolour pencils.

Do they have names?

In fact yes, they do have names now. The one on the left is Fair Mary Murray, and the lady on the right is Tressa McMurdo, Queen of the Isles Cheesy

Hi everyone, I just finished making two little ghost dolls and I'm really pleased with the way they have turned out. I thought I would like to share some pics with you, as I know there are lots of Craftsters who like spooky things (although these girls aren't really very scary!!)

What do you use to colour the face with? and does it smudge out?

Thank you Imera. I use a mixture of things to draw the faces on - mainly watercolour pencils, fine liner pens and acrylic paint. They don't smudge (well, not yet anyway!) I keep meaning to buy some sprayable sealant for them, just to be extra sure. I believe Krylon make something suitable, but its not too easy to get a hold of here in the UK Sad

38  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Einstein Feltie! on: May 27, 2011 06:50:36 AM
Hi everyone,

I have a friend who is a physics teacher and I wanted to make him a little present and came up with this - its Albert Einstein made out of felt! I didn't really know any other famous physicists, so I hope that he likes him. Little Albert is very tiny..I haven't measured him, but he must be around 2-3" tall and is based on a pattern from a japanese craft book. I put a little sign on him, just so that everyone can be sure who he is! Cheesy

How long does it take you to finish one Doll from start to end?

Hello!

That's a tricky question to answer because I tend to make up doll parts in big batches and I normally work on about 3 at a time - that way I can jump from one to another and it saves me getting bored! I would say that I could make a more simple doll in a day, and a more detailed one might take a couple of days. I probably spend most time on the faces, and everything else I try to make a simply as possible - I choose fabric that's nice to look at, and little bits and pieces like flowers and pieces of jewellery which can make the doll look really nice, but is all quite simple to put together.

Some of my favourite doll artists make dolls that are so detailed and intricate, and they clearly spend weeks and weeks on each one...I just don't have the patience for that - I like to find the easiest way to do things, heehee!! Cheesy

I'm toying with the idea of making and selling some patterns and instructions for my little dolls. I'm not sure if people would be interested, but I think that it might be worth a try (if I can ever put down my needle and thread! Cheesy)

Thank you so much everyone for your kind comments.

Sharalee, I don't really decide ahead of time what I'm doing, or what eyes go with what ourfit...I just kind of make it up as I go along. Any time that I have tried to pre-plan, the doll never ends up anything like what I've had in mind...

I had the 4 'curvy' doll bodies lying on my craft table before I had dressed them the other day, when my Dad came through as siad 'Lesley, why are you making porn dolls?'!! Cheesy What a cheek to describe my girls like that (even though they are voluptuous!!) Cheesy Cheesy
