1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Pi Day Watercolor Cityscape on: March 11, 2019 09:50:55 PM
We're looking forward to Pi Day later this week, so we were looking through some of our projects last year.  This was a family favorite!

First, baby.sweets4ever taught baby.sweets4ever2 all about Pi. Smiley  We made a 4-piece Pi poster because everything is way more fun as poster size.

Then I printed (free) graph paper for each kiddo.  With black markers, they colored in the blocks to match the first few numbers of Pi.  They had no idea what they were creating at this point. Cool

Next I set them up with watercolors and they got to painting bands of colors.  One chose warm colors and the other chose cool colors.  I was secretly quite giddy about their selections. Cheesy

At this point, baby.sweets4ever proclaimed, "Hey!  It looks like I'm making a sunset!"  He was on to me. Cool  But he still didn't realize he had created a cityscape just yet...

And finally, they cut out their graph paper creations and we glued them onto their paintings.  A year later, they still have them hanging in their bedroom.   They LOVE them! Smiley

Here are some free printables I used! Kiss
2  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Random Acts of Kindness (RAOK) and Art Abandonment / Craftster Rocks! Free Rock Labels, Info and More! on: February 18, 2019 09:14:35 AM

If you are painting rocks, join our Craftster Rocks! Facebook group!

Rock Painting Basic Guidelines & Best Practices

1. Always be mindful of the environment and respectful of the community guidelines that already exist.
2. Seal each rock thoroughly.  Do not add or attach anything other than a securely-adhered label, as trinkets and attachments can pose littering and choking risks for animals.  Many use Mod Podge for attaching the labels to the back, followed by spray sealing the entire rock with at least two coats.
3. Do not hide rocks in national parks, state parks, or on private property.
4. Craftster, Pinterest and Facebook are great places to find inspiration for colorful creations and creative messages.

Printable Labels

We've created some printable sheets of itty bitty labels, if you need one for the bottom of your rock.  You can always just paint or use paint marker on the bottom of your rock instead of attaching a label, too.  Totally up to you!  These PDFs print on standard 8.5x11 printer paper.  Print which size you need, cut out a label and attach it to your rock.  Most people use Mod Podge or craft glue to adhere it prior to sealing the entire rock.

Facebook Group (optional fun!)

Sometimes when people find rocks "out in the wild," they take a photo and share it on Facebook with the rock's hashtag or group.  If you want to join a group for #craftsterrocks, we've just created it here!  Craftster Rocks #craftsterrocks group on Facebook.  Just request to join and myself, kittykill or rackycoo will get you added! 5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Polaroid Print Gift Tags on: December 26, 2018 09:49:49 AM
Each year, I try to create some sort of fun holiday gift wrap theme.  Our kiddos always really look forward to it, so I simply cannot stop now. Cheesy  The last few years, I've used plain old brown kraft paper and I've just changed up the tags, ribbon, etc.  One year was metallic doodles with their names hidden in the swirls and creations.  Another year was red ribbons and accents galore.

This last year, we've had lots of adventures since moving to the desert, and we've easily taken thousands of photographs.  So I decided I wanted to feature those! Smiley

I found this free Polaroid template PNG from Decorator's Notebook and knew it would be perfect.  I opened it in Photoshop and dragged all of my images into the file as new layers.  Once I resized and aligned them to my liking, I gave each the same action treatment (a hazy black & white action).  Then I resized the entire Polaroid file and sent all of the photos to the printer on plain old white card stock.  Once printed, I chopped 'em out with my paper guillotine and they were good to go.

They looked so lovely under the tree!

The kids have claimed the photos for their bedroom wall, which is pretty cool.  baby.sweets4ever got an actual Polaroid camera for Christmas, so I suspect their walls will be plastered with many more photos very soon!

It's time for our annual Gingerbread Contest!! Kiss  Each year, we've had so much fun seeing your gingerbread creations.  If this is your first year on Craftster, be sure to check out our previous years!

It's time to get out those mixing bowls and get crafting!  Your challenge this month is to make and decorate a gingerbread house.  Any type of house is permitted (cottage, castle, etc.) as long as it has walls and a roof of gingerbread.  Your entry must be made of edible parts, but it's not limited to sweets only.  The only non-edible parts allowed are a base, lighting and/or electrical components.

No gingerbread house kits for this challenge.  No size restraints; miniature to life-size houses are tasty and welcome for this challenge.

Rules:

  • Craft your project during this challenge period (Dec 3 - Jan 8 ) only.  Projects created before this timeframe will be excluded from the voting poll.
  • Each participant can enter ONE project (Although your entry can have multiple components to it).
  • Post your craft during the period of Jan 1 - Jan 8 2019. No sooner.  No later.  On Jan 1, there will be a special folder created for entries.  We will reply with the folder/board link here on this thread.
  • Voting will happen from Jan 8 - Jan 15 2019.
  • The winner will be officially announced on our first business Monday of the next month -- in our February newsletter, on this thread and on the Craftster blog.  We will contact you via Private Message, after the announcement, to get your prize package information.
  • If cheating of any sort is discovered, the applicable entry and votes will be disqualified.

Originality:

It's probably impossible to know whether your project is 100% original, has never been posted on Craftster or made by anyone else in the past.  But if your project was definitely inspired by something you've seen before, please give credit to that project.

Prizes:

At the end, we'll set up a poll right here and the first place winner will get...

(1) their project in the Featured Projects area
(2) their project in the Craftster Blog
(3) and this Craftster prize (winner can receive prize in U.S. or non-U.S.):
Their choice of any one item from one of Craftster's online shops!
