642  Re: Finally put my art room together! (img hvy) in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by sweets4ever on: May 04, 2007 05:02:54 AM
I've already posted once to tell you how sweet that room is, but I had to go back and look at it again for inspiration.  My daughter is going to grad school and I have her room!!!  Can't wait to get started.  I have already picked out the paint and I am gathering storage solutions.  After looking at your baskets, I noticed the "meltables" collection.  What is in that and what do you do (other than melt them!)??  I collect tissue paper for deco items too.  There are so many pretty patterns!!  Now I know how to visualize and not buy more too.  Thanks for that tip again!

Awe... thanks so much and you're welcome, too! Smiley

Meltables!  It's funny you noticed that. Cheesy  Plastic dinosaurs, policeman, chunks of plastic...I make bowls out of them like this:

With the beads and cookie cutters, I make keychains & window hangings like these:

It means you can't have a photo inserted directly in your post until you reach 10 posts here on Craftster.

So instead of posting a photo like this:

You would have to post a link instead.  Like this:
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l156/sweets4ever48/Craftster/IMG_7093-1.jpg

Make sense? Smiley

I'm going to change the subject of your topic to something more helpful to other members who may have the same question.  I'm changing it from "hello" to "Not allowed to post photos yet?"

Awe, you guys are THE best!!

I'm looking for shades in deep red wine, but I don't think I want traditional roses.  I'm also going to incorporate some crystals into my bouquet.

My MOH will be all crystals like this (but our colors):

So I was thinking for mine to do flowers and some crystals to pick up some love for her bouquet.  Like this...

...but with our colors, like this! Smiley  Our colors are red wine/black with silver accents.  I'm in love with this one - it's a bunch of Red Lion amaryllis, Fancy Amazon roses, and exotic-looking chinaberries.

did you have a good experience ordering online, shimmer?  i was a bit afraid because i wouldn't be able to judge quality.  i might get some filler at afloral - thanks!

I was worried for the same exact reason!

645  Show Off Your Hair--Dyed, Cut, or Styled by Yourself! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by sweets4ever on: April 11, 2007 10:14:32 AM
This topic was started from the Show off your hair! And questions about hair styles! thread.  We split the topic so there would be a "Discussion & Questions" thread and a "Completed Projects" thread.

The old topic is locked, but feel free to browse through it anytime!  Please don't repost your posts from that topic in this one.  The old topic will never expire. Smiley

Please post your "Completed Projects" (hairstyles) here.  These hairstyles should only include hairstyles that you have personally completed.  Please don't post hairstyles that you have had done or hired someone to do for you.  Only post hairstyles that you have created.

If you have questions about hairstyles go to this thread: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=163396.0

646  Looking for unusual centerpiece ideas (non-floral) in Weddings and Bridal Showers by sweets4ever on: April 03, 2007 04:26:36 PM
I think I want something semi-unusual for our centerpieces (not candles or flowers or floating candle flowers Tongue).  They are both lovely, but I just wanna be weird.  We're weird and crafty, so I think our tables should reflect that in a beautiful way. Cheesy

I just saw a photo of a wedding that used all thrift-found bird cages - the old, fun, wire ones...different shapes & sizes.  Then she hung two origami birds in each one.  It looked lovely (photo below).

If anyone has any ideas, please share.  Here's some info about the wedding that might help.

Here are some from theknot.com...

647  Re: MODS' instant swap/Competition GALLERY (Your chance to vote will come!) in The Swap Gallery by sweets4ever on: March 31, 2007 09:48:01 AM
I was playing with everything!!  Racky spooooooiled me!  She does/did know it's an INSTANT swap and smaller packages, right?!!

Here's everything!  Fiance hug pillow, purse, pillow cases, beaded soap on a rope, scrapbook & photo paper!

She knew I'm a photogeek, so she sent me a memory book and five pieces of photo paper!  WOOT!

I had talked about the possibility of my fiance travelling to Japan for work soon, so she made me a "fiance hug pillow" Cheesy  I listed my favorite color combo as red and black and somehow she even made it smell like his cologne! Cheesy  I must have posted what cologne he wears at some point in time - too funny.  She says the pillow is to keep me company/comfort when he's away on travels.  Our dogs don't know WHAT to think about it yet! Cheesy

A noodle purse!  It got a little damaged in the mail (a few noodles crumbled, lol), but it's still plenty in tact!  I love how the handle matches the Velveeta flap!

I said I wanted some "his/hers" items (wedding, engagement, etc.), so she made me these felt-lettered pillow cases - so cute. Smiley  It's funny the "Hers" has a $ - is she saying I am marrying for money?! Cheesy Cheesy

BEADED soap on a rope!  She knows I'm an avid bead melter, so she said I could use the beads for melting when we were done with the soap.  She didn't make the soap it self, but it smells reeeally good.

Thank you RACKY!!  You really spoiled me & now I'm even more nervous for you to get my package!

648  Elephant Purse & wallet in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by sweets4ever on: March 26, 2007 09:20:20 PM
I made this lil' guy for a swap.  Please be kind, I'm verrrrry new to sewing, let alone making a bag & wallet.  Before this I have only made a few pillows, pouches and a puzzle ball.  I'm getting better (I think), but it's definitely a learning experience with each project.

I knew my partner liked purses and elephants, so I had to at least try to make one for her.  It was screaming her name at me! Cheesy

His little ear is a pocket! Cheesy

Here's a wallet I tried to make match from the same fabric:

And here's just a random in-progress photo:

649  Melted Bead Elephant Tutorial in Completed Projects by sweets4ever on: March 26, 2007 09:05:29 PM
I did this for a lovely lady in a swap. Smiley  She loves blue and collects elephants - some of my favorites!

He is 16" in diameter and is made from melted beads and faux liquid leading. Smiley

For size reference...

Supplies:

Plastic pony beads (like these)
Giant cake pan
Liquid Leading (totally optional for additional decoration)

Steps:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Arrange beads into name, shape or whatever design you desire.

Carefully put pan into oven to bake.  If you move too quickly, you'll roll your beads around on the pan.  Take your time! Smiley

Bake until your piece is at your desired consistency.  The longer you bake, the flatter you piece will become.

Remove from oven and allow to thoroughly cool.

Gently flip the pan over and the piece will release from the pan.

If you are adding Liquid Leading detailing, do so now. Smiley

Display it!  Lean it on a shelf, or hang it with ribbon from suction cups on a window. Smiley

Please use ventilation and caution when melting plastic beads.  Do not melt plastic around pets or children.

I got inspiration for the shape of the ellie from this real stained glass site Cheesy http://chantalstainedglass.50megs.com/2babyelephant1.html

Here are some more pictures and some links to some inspiration where inspiration is due! Smiley

I read she liked b&w photography and nature, so I tried to combine those for her. Smiley
Here they are unframed.  I didn't alter the colors; I only removed color.

Links to the images 'cause they're bigger than 500-wide.

Before I drilled him (or her?) for ribbon hanger.
Some of the shades are flat and some have sparkle or shimmer (I love spppparrrkles!). Grin

Thanks for being such a sweetie, charliebrown and for hanging in there with me while my life went topsy turvy for a while. Smiley *hug*
