1  Re: A facelift for Craftster? It's been 5 years... in Suggest New Boards and New Features by sweets4ever on: December 06, 2017 08:43:45 AM
Right now we are contending with photobucket not allowing 3rd parties to access pictures. I am working on tutorials, making sure that they can still be used. It is a very long process trying to recover pictures, but we hope that in 2018 we can put a dent in it.

Photobucket broke the internet. Cry  This process is seriously not fun.  I need to make a "news" post about it, so users can [hopefully!] help us and update their posts along the way, too.

2  Craft Challenge #122 - Annual Gingerbread Contest 9, Due Jan 1 - 8, 2018 in Craftster Craft Challenges by sweets4ever on: December 04, 2017 08:11:21 AM
Craft Challenge #122 - Gingerbread House Contest 8 - Entries Due Jan 1 - Jan 8

It's time for our annual Gingerbread Contest!! Kiss  Each year, we've had so much fun seeing your gingerbread creations.  If this is your first year on Craftster, be sure to check out our previous years:

It's time to get out those mixing bowls and get crafting!  Your challenge this month is to make and decorate a gingerbread house.  Any type of house is permitted (cottage, castle, etc.) as long as it has walls and a roof of gingerbread.  Your entry must be made of edible parts, but it's not limited to sweets only.  The only non-edible parts allowed are a base, lighting and/or electrical components.  No gingerbread house kits for this challenge.  No size restraints; miniature to life-size houses are tasty and welcome for this challenge.

Rules:

  • Craft your project during this challenge period (Dec 4 - Jan eight) only.  Projects created before this timeframe will be excluded from the voting poll.
  • Each participant can enter ONE project (Although your entry can have multiple components to it).
  • Post your craft during the period of Jan 1 - Jan 8 2018. No sooner.  No later.  On Jan 1, there will be a special folder created for entries.  We will reply with the folder/board link here on this thread.
  • Voting will happen from Jan 8 - Jan 15 2018.
  • The winner will be officially announced on our first business Monday of the next month -- in our February newsletter, on this thread and on the Craftster blog.  We will contact you via Private Message, after the announcement, to get your prize package information.
  • If cheating of any sort is discovered, the applicable entry and votes will be disqualified.

Originality:

It's probably impossible to know whether your project is 100% original, has never been posted on Craftster or made by anyone else in the past.  But if your project was definitely inspired by something you've seen before, please give credit to that project.

Prizes:

At the end, we'll set up a poll right here and the first place winner will get...

(1) their project in the Featured Projects area
(2) their project in the Craftster Blog
(3) and this Craftster prize (winner can receive prize in U.S. or non-U.S.):
Their choice of any one item from one of Craftster's online shops!

4  Thanksgiving & Friendsgiving Dinner menu ideas? in Thanksgiving by sweets4ever on: November 01, 2017 02:48:53 PM
Are you hosting a holiday dinner this month?  What's on your menu?

Our close friends hosted Friendsgiving last year.  They made the turkey and the rest was an organized potluck amongst us guests.  I must say, it was pretty darned fabulous!  Unfortunately, we just moved across the United States and left all of our friends behind. Cry  I need to find a new, epic friendsgiving here in the desert, haha! Cheesy

5  Re: Anybody else remember these sewing cards? in Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions by sweets4ever on: November 01, 2017 02:32:30 PM
Ahh, I remember those!  I had that exact set!  I agree -- would have been neat, if they had it outline the dresses, roses, made some stars in the sky, etc.

My kids have something similar to these now, but they are called "lacing" cards these days.  They are a thicker cardboard, so quiet reusable, too.  Ours our dinosaurs.  For some reason, I never made the connection from them to my old Barbie sewing set.  So neat.

10  Super Simple Harry Potter Scavenger Hunt in Party Planning by sweets4ever on: October 09, 2017 10:35:47 AM
I wanted a fun way to surprise baby.sweets4ever with tickets to the Harry Potter in Concert series (Phoenix Symphony was playing it yesterday), so I bounced around and found oodles of free printables to create a little scavenger hunt.

I told him I spotted something in the living room for him.  The Owl Post had arrived!  I snagged this little owl from Amazon.

I created a letter with this free HP letterhead.  The letter instructed him to hunt for game pieces throughout the house & yard.  I printed a TON of these "Would You Rather?" cards for him to play later, but the letter told him to just do the first page at each location for now. Wink

For this location, I really just wanted an excuse to use this cute little treat box printable Cheesy so I threw in some chocolate coins with the chocolate frog game piece.  They were a big hit. Cheesy

I tried to loosely match some of the game cards to an item or activity at each location.  This paper sorter is so cute and we've all been sorted approximately 72 times since he found it yesterday. Cheesy

The game piece for this location mentioned something about predicting the future, so I put their fortune teller (Magic 8 Ball) toy up there.

The last location of the scavenger hunt changed from the game pieces to this single scroll.  We had his full Harry Potter costume hanging next to it. Smiley

And off they went!

It was a SPECTACULAR concert!  He started playing violin this year, so it was like his two worlds collided, HP & violin.  They encouraged costumes and it was a very high energy event (cheering at certain movie scenes, clapping, etc.), so good for the whole family, even little wizards!  Totally recommend it.  I think tickets started at just $30, too, so not too shabby.  They are doing the next movie in the series in January, so we might snag those for a Christmas gift.
