My daughter Pinxit is IN LOVE with the song "California Gurls", so I thought it would be super cute and fitting to make her up like Katy Perry for Halloween this year. I made everything but her tights, pink onesie she wore underneath(being that we live in Canada). The shoes, and head band were upcycles, and though I didn't make the wig, I cut and styled it(as best as possible for a synthetic wig that is). Also, because I reused many items, it cost less than $20 to make her outfit.

The top is completely handmade - I used a white canvas for the shirt knowing it was just for Halloween in hopes that the felt sweets and beading would hold up, and was made without a pattern(unfortunately I didn't get photos before she went out, so some of the beading had been affected by the time we got home). This was my first time working with felt, and everything was trial and error - no patterns. The icecream, cupcake, popsicle, and large candies were all poly-filled.

The skirt was actually made from the skirt I made her last year for our Halloween wedding, just shortened/doubled over and re-sewn, with an elastic waistband added. Also I wanted the outfit to be as accurate as possible(which is really hard when you can't find any decent still images let me tell you!), I thought it would be nice to reuse the tulle as it was far too small for her to wear anymore, and by adding the elastic, she can use it again in the future.

Her shoes are actually an old beaten up pair that were most likely mine as well as my sisters, maybe even a cousin or two... That I completely hand painted with acrylic mixed with medium to make into fabric paint. Then lots of sparkles were added, and sealed.

Her headband was one of mine that I glued gems onto, and made a felt poly-filled heart. I tried working with synthetic hair, attached to a floral foam cut-out, but the bonding glue(for doing glued in extensions) wouldn't dry, and when I tried using E6000, it just ate away at the foam. At least I tried right?

I also made her Trick-or-Treating bag. It consists of 19 Koodaid Jammer's juice bags, and bag handles I took off an old beat up tote bag. This was my second time making one of these bags.

Now on with the photos!
