11  Paper Quilling Swap? in New Swap Theme Ideas by mezcraft on: July 22, 2012 05:43:58 AM

I don't know if a lot of people do this, but I am right into it and was wondering if other people might be interested in something like this?

Maybe a small piece of quilling? an 8 x 10 shape or perhaps some of those neat little sculptures I have seen people do with quilling... what do you think? Wanna try a new craft? It is kind of awesomely fun and costs so little to do. Paper, glue, some tweezers and toothpicks and a bit of patience, really.

Anyone interested?

12  Totally Awesome man. Quilling the Geometric. in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by mezcraft on: July 22, 2012 05:35:15 AM
So the other day, I was feeling real good, positively amazing, I would go so far as to say Awesome. So I made a piece of quillling about it.

I have been on a real geometric kick lately and love doing it with quilling so this is what I came up with.  Repeated Triangular shapes swirling around some "awesome".  Totally fun to make.

I was going for a kind of shattered glass, crystalline thing, but I kind of used that as a jumping off point as an idea and let the shapes kind of dictate what it would look like. Really neat stuff came out of it!

16  Quiller Seahorse! in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by mezcraft on: June 30, 2012 09:28:23 AM
Oh gosh it's been awhile since I have posted anything up on here! I have been a busy little bee lately, but I thought that this was worth sharing.  I have just finished this piece for a woman who wanted some art for her new baby boy that she is expecting any time soon.  The seahorse image had personal meaning for her, so I sketched up several designs and went forth and created it! It was actually really challenging because the main outline of the seahorse was composed of many little curves and peaks which took a long time to get just right.

The waves were very similar to the ones I did on the Octopus I quilled earlier in the year, so they were fairly straightforward.

Ooo.. I will share with you my neat trick I tried out on this seahorse, in order to get all of the different curves on the seahorse outline instead of just using a toothpick to get the curves  (which is the only tool I used before!) I used an assortment of knitting needles with different thicknesses! It worked like a charm, allowing me to get the paper to curve nicely and to look exactly like the drawing.

Hope you enjoyed this! If you like it and are still curious for more quilling curiosities check my bloggity blog blog:

17  Day of the Dead Lady Batik! in Needlework: Completed Projects by mezcraft on: April 06, 2012 09:34:24 AM
So I am a big fan of this faux batik technique and this is my newest exploration in it.  I painted three different colours, yellow, Bright orange and raw sienna in acrylic to get the hair pattern the way I wanted it and then red for the flower.  I like this lady although I wish i made her colour patterning slightly less "jokerish". I made her for a swap.

I think I would like to do more experiments with this technique and I have really been thinking about way super abstract stuff and how it might turn out with this technique... I have a feeling my next adventure might be way more "arty"...

Still curious? Check out my blogorama...

18  Colourful Canada! in Needlework: Completed Projects by mezcraft on: March 28, 2012 04:31:11 PM
For the Canadian Ongoing Wish Swap

I had some fun and thought I would do an embroidery piece for my partner. I have seen ones similar to this for The States but not yet for Canada! So here it is! I used the Satin Stitch in alternating diagonals to get a some what geometric feel to it, but some provinces ( PEI ) were only three stitches big.

What do ya think?

Want some more curiosities? Check out my blogitty blog blog...

20  Re: Embroidery Hoopla Round 7 Gallery (Send Out Feb 27) in The Swap Gallery by mezcraft on: March 15, 2012 06:55:15 PM
I received two great hoops !

One from Pixiefirefly- This is a really sweet hoop. I love the jackalope and I really like the fabric she did it on.  Very cool.. I can't wait to hang this on my wall... Thank you!

Another hoop from Melladh - I know that melladh's work is always so intricate ( I have been blessed with her as a partner before!) but I was really blown away by the quality of the teeny tiny delicate little french knots... George Seurat eat your heart out.... The image is from my pinterest which was done originally in paper.. this is so much cooler. Thank you!

look at those little teeny knots! She is crazy awesome!

Thank you both for such great hoops..
