Excellent season, Quidditch players and CONGRATS to Ravenclaw!! Cheesy

Class: Charms
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Bleach and dyed fat quarter
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: This lively and fun FQ was made from a plain black FQ, spiral tied and placed in a bucket of bleach diluted with water ~10:1 water to bleach. While still tied, the piece was rinsed thoroughly to stop the bleach reaction, then soaked in a soda ash mixture for 30 minutes prior to being overdyed with fiber reactive dyes. The dyed fabric sat overnight in plastic, then was rinsed again and washed. I think it came out pretty cool!

Class: Study of Ancient Runes
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Mini Dot Mandala Canvases
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: These mini canvases were made for the art abandonment swap here on Craftster. I was paired with the awesome alteredmommy, so I really wanted to do something awesome for her. She had dot mandala rocks pinned, and I adapted the idea slightly to use mini canvases. Partly because I had these in my stash and partly to increase the ease of painting these babies, since this was to be my first attempt. I made sure that my supplies matched my project for this by purchasing a set of embossing tools to get just the right sized dots. I also used several household items including a pin head, a nail head, some dremel drill bits (flat end), a thumb tack, and several jewelry making tools from my husband's workbench. Having the right supplies made a HUGE difference in this project.

Love the drop sites, Nodsu!!

I received some awesome art from alteredmommy last night! Check out her gorgeous work:

Each canvas was packed in a plastic baggie with an awesome tag declaring the origins of the art. I can't to spread some Alberta arty goodness in NJ!

Here's a close up:

The work is wonderfully textured. Smiley I didn't realize the lighting on these pics wasn't the best until I took the picture of mine:

This pic shows the colors a bit more true to life. It's already found a home on my entry-way shelf (can you spot it?):

The whole package came with a  lovely card printed with alteredmommy's friend's batik artwork:

I love it! Thanks so much, alteredmommy - now to get these babies out into the world!

I'm going to be travelling up north tomorrow for the long weekend, so I won't be around to post the new Iron Chef Hogwarts Challenge. The current TEA challenge is still open until 12:00 am EST tonight, so any last minute entries between now and then will still be counted (when I get back next Tuesday!), but for now, I wanted to post the September challenge so folks would have it just in case they were inspired for BBQs/cookouts over the weekend.

We had an awesome turn out for the TEA challenge! Thanks to Mistress Jennie, patty_o_furniture, edelC, noodle-bug, ErinAquaheart, and tiamatfire for your TEA entries!! You've all been entered into the Iron Chef giveaway at semester's end!

And now, without further ado...the Secret Ingredient for September is...

CORN!

Hold onto summer with a summer corn salad, channel fall with a fall corn pudding, or maybe land somewhere in between with these sweet corn cookies!

I received from IsikkahJai!

She sent me this beautiful dangly, leafy piece. See all those tiny leaves? I'm pretty sure she MADE each one. Thank you Isi! I love it!

Class: Defense Against the Dark Arts
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Coffee/Monday Hoop
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: My favorite co-worker is leaving to start a new job elsewhere. We've worked together for several years now and her leaving is a little bit tough for both of us...but also very exciting for her! To show her that I will miss her, but to also wish her luck in this next uncertain (but exciting) phase of her career, I made her a little embroidered hoop for her new office (or cubicle, ha) to help her get through potentially stressful days during her transition.
Project Picture:

Class: History of Magic
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Bleach Tie Dye
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: Inspired by the golden hue of a delicious butterbeer, this tie dye was made for my son using traditional tie techniques (basic spiral) before being placed in a bucket of diluted bleach (~1:10 bleach to water...I did add a bit more bleach when it seemed like I wasn't getting a reaction after a few minutes). The shirt soaked for at least 30 minutes before being thoroughly rinsed to avoid over-reaction. I let the rinsed shirt sit overnight before untying and washing, but I don't know if that was necessary. The result is a beautiful golden-rust colored tie-dye effect against a black background. Kiddo loves the effect and I can't wait to play more with this technique.

Class: Alchemy
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Branch Necklace
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: Inspired by this pin, and made for Artmomto5 in the recent necklace swap, I wrapped some beads around a mundane stick I picked up in the woods to transform it into some wearable art!
Project Picture:

Class: Care of Magical Creatures
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Fairy Wing Necklace
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: Made for IsikkahJai in the necklace swap, this embroidered stumpwork fairy wing is covered in a glittery layer of mod podge to make it shine and shimmer.
Project Picture:

Class: Flying
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Embroidered Geometric Pendant
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: Also made for Artmomto5 in the necklace swap, this geometric pendant (which I did later attach to a cord) is inspired by mountains and their reminiscence of triangular patterns and shapes (+ bonus shot of branch necklace).

Awesome stuff in the gallery so far! I love it all!

I received from Artmomto5 yesterday, but I was in the city all day and night with sheepBlue who was visiting! I just put her on a plane home, so here I am to post and show off my AMAZING necklace!

Isn't it beautiful? Here's a close up of the focal piece:

sheepBlue was here when I opened the package this morning and we were both ooo-ing and ahh-ing over it! Thank you so much, Artmomto5!

The Iron Chef Hogwarts July Challenge is now CLOSED. Thanks to Mistress Jennie, FiberAlchemist, and noodle-bug for your rhubarb entries! In addition to earning house points for your recipes (woohoo!), each of you have been entered into the Iron Chef Giveaway at semester's end. Meanwhile, my rhubarb is still sitting in my fridge!  Embarrassed

And that brings me to...The secret ingredient for August is....

TEA!

Brine your chicken in a Sweet Tea Marinade
before grilling, cook outside the box with this ochazuke recipe, or get sweet with a milk tea flan with boba for dessert!

Love the sandwich wrap, Jennie - how does it work for keeping the sandwich fresh? I wasn't impressed with the reusable baggies I purchased, might have to give those a try, especially now that there's an awesome tute to walk me through it!

I have a few projects to turn in, though I still need to get going on Quidditch!

Challenge: Headmistress Challenge: Harry Potter
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Harry Potter Faux Stained Glass
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: I made this for Inselaeffchen in the "I want to Live in the Burrow" Swap. She had this image pinned and I was instantly inspired to try my hand at faux stained glass. Since this project was going across the Atlantic, however, I used a round piece of plexi glass instead of actual glass. I still wrapped it securely before sending in lots of bubble wrap...I was so worried it would get scratched en route. The black lines were done with Allure metallic dimensional adhesive paint and the yellow, gray and clear sections were done with either a mod podge glass tint, mod podge mixed with acrylic, or just plain old mod podge. I used a toothbrush to give the clear sections some texture. I think this project is both inspired by HP himself and pretty remarkable by my standards. Smiley
Project Pictures:

Challenge: House Pride
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Tie-dye Gryffindor Crest Tee
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: Made for Inselaeffchen's daughter, a fellow Gryffindor, I tie-dyed a t-shirt in Gryffindor colors and used freezer paper stencil and paint to mark it with the Gryffindor crest. Roar Gryffindor!
Project Picture:

Challenge: House Unity
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Tie-dye Hufflepuff Crest Tee
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: Made for Inselaeffchen's other daughter, a proud Hufflepuff, I tie-dyed a t-shirt in Hufflepuff colors and used freezer paper stencil and paint to mark it with the Hufflepuff crest. Puff Pride!
Project Picture:

**Note to our headmistresses** I think I'm good to post one house pride AND one house unity per semester, but please let me know if I misread page 1 and I'll reassign one of my projects. THANK YOU!! Smiley

Awesome crochet goodies - perfect for Jennie!

Love the mobile! It has a rustic look to it that I really like.

AND...I received an AWESOME package from Inselaeffchen!!

First off are FOUR pillow covers:

One for each house. They are perfect and I love the crest, Inselaeffchen! My son might steal the Gryffindor one from me. Smiley

Here's a close up:

Then, she also sent me FOUR onesies!

Love these two:

I'm expecting twin girls in Nov/Dec and I haven't purchased a single thing for them yet, so these are perfect!

And she also made my son a shirt:

Thank you so much Inselaeffchen! Our whole family loves this package. Cheesy
