1  Naruto! in CHALLENGE 128 ENTRIES by Abbeeroad on: November 08, 2019 08:15:08 AM
My son is obsessed with Naruto, so of course we had to do a Naruto Halloween!

Here are the pics of the completed costume and the trunk of my car decorated like the Ichiraku Ramen Shop.

I bought two yards of orange fabric and a bunch of yellow felt for this project. The leaf village headband was also purchased as kiddo didn't want to take a chance with such an important element of the costume. Wink

I made the pants based on a pair of joggers my son has. The jacket was initially a fail. I tried to create one from scratch based on a hoodie my son had:

I had too much fabric in the front blue shoulder area and my zipper ended up not disconnecting at the bottom...I was so unhappy with it, I picked out all of my stitches to disconnect the blue section from the orange, cut out the zip, and then just sewed what was left to the hoodie I'd tried to mimic. I cut off the hood, added some batting to the collar and it came together! Whew! I added a piece of red felt to the back with the swirl cut out of HTV via my Cricut.

Now let's talk about the hair! I'm actually really proud of how it came out, lol. I used this doll hair tutorial as inspiration. Mr. Road made a template of my son's head with aluminum foil and duct tape reinforcement. Then I just went to town with hot glue and felt! It came out so cool and really makes the costume.

Here's the only shot I got of him standing in it on actual Halloween. It got a bit rumpled by then, but still held up great.

Thanks for looking!!

Class: Charms
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Rust dyed and flour resist stamp slow cloth swatch
Brief Description: I made this as a little extra for alteredmommy in the recent monoprint fabric swap. The background fabric I rust dyed with some metal shavings from Mr. Road's garage and the bicycle stamp was done using flour resist and dye. The other accent pieces were actually from a natural dyeing workshop I attended some time ago. I used sashiko-style running stitches to combine all these elements into a piece of "slow cloth." The idea is that it is not a quick project, but something that takes time and mindfulness. This project definitely made me "slow down" a bit, especially this time of year when the impending holiday season seems to ramp up the speed of life.

Brief Description: We carve pumpkins for Halloween every year - this year, they embody some current favorite characters in my house: Peppa Pig and Naruto!

Class: Herbology
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Mono Print Fabric Squares
Brief Description: The gelli plate and I just don't really get along. I want us to like each other, I really do, but it just seems that everything I try to do with it is a disappointing substitute for the magic some folks manage to create. So, signing up for the mono print fabric swap definitely took me out of my element a bit. Or at least, I thought it would. Once I just started putting the brayer right onto my fabric and adding stamped accents as I saw fit, I had so much fun making these layers, that maybe this is my element after all. Wink Though there were moments in the middle that I almost chucked them out the window!

Holiday Challenge: Halloween
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Butterfly Costumes
Brief Description: After much back and forth and deliberation, I settled on making butterfly costumes for the girls for Halloween. I used a lot of my dyed fabric for the wings, and love how they came out. Now just to get them to wear the darn things...

~*Love to Do List #4*~
Class: DADA
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Peace, Love, and Chevy Shirt
Brief Description: Made for my brother in law (who got me my Cricut machine for xmas...2 years ago now?), who is a peace loving car guy. Smiley

~*Love to Do List #7*~
Class: Flying
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Ask Me About My T-Rex Shirt
Brief Description: Made for my nephew, this project requires the shirt to be turned inside out and upside down for correct construction. It can be a bit tricky and I always get a wave of anxiety when making this type of shirt that makes me quadruple check it before I hit it with the iron. The shirt itself is also pretty much the definition of impractical by fun! Cheesy
