Challenge: 12 Trees Challenge - BAUBLES
House: Gryiffindor
Project Name: Painted pouches
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: I decorated these pouches to hold gifts for my mom, aunt, and grandma in my own style. Even though they were gifts, I enjoyed making them and wanted to keep one for myself! (Tags by Alisa Burke. You can download here.)

Challenge: 12-Trees: GARLAND
House: Gryffindor

Challenge: 12-Trees: ICICLES
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Italian Cream Cheese Cookies
Project Page Link: Recipe
Brief Description: A couple of my coworkers make the most AMAZING Italian cookies every year. I DO NOT like Italian cookies. I LOVE THESE COOKIES. Sadly, my attempt to make them on my own (I have yet to obtain an official recipe from my coworkers despite several requests...) did not come out as good. I think I may have overmixed them...and the icing/glaze is just not right. But I won't give up...attempt #1 wasn't too bad...we still ate them, lol! Cheesy

Class: Muggle Studies
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Scrabble-style Ornaments
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: Every year I make ornaments that represent my kiddos to hang on the xmas tree. This year, I combined their names Scrabble-style!
Project Picture:

Class: Potions
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Trio of Socks
Project Page Link: Purchased SVG from this Etsy shop
Brief Description: I made these cozy socks to keep out the cold for my aunt, gram, and mom. Yes, I made them upside down in this pic.  Embarrassed I did fix it with a second round of socks, but OF COURSE, I forgot to take a pic of the right ones, lol. So my mistake is on full display. Smiley
Project Picture:

Class: SoAR
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Potholder Pair
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: I made this pair of potholders to send to my brother. He and his girlfriend just bought a new house right before Thanksgiving, and are still in need of things to make it homey. These two holders should work together to do just that!
Project Picture:

Class: Transfiguration
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Debugging Mug
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: I stole this saying from the Internet. I'm not this clever, haha. But it fit my husband so well, I just couldn't resist. Also my first attempt at vinyl on a mug. It went...ok. I lost the small dots in the weeding and transfer, but I'm ok with that. Placement could probably be better. Mr. Road loves it anyway. Will likely be used for coffee and tea, but I suppose it could hold water...Smiley

Yay! Thank you for the idea! Of course I forgot to take pics before they were gifted, so here's a cropped photo to remove their adorable faces, lol:

I could totally make some with "she" instead. Cheesy

I ended up not doing the bag because I couldn't find muslin ones the right size. So, not as cool as yours, but almost!

Thanks again!!! Smiley

A few days late (again)...but the Iron Chef Hogwarts Secret Ingredient for December is...

Bourbon!

Bourbon's smoky caramel and vanilla flavor adds a special nuance to savory and sweet dishes alike. It pairs particularly well with brown sugar, pecans, vanilla, chocolate, mint, apples, pears, peaches, ham, and pork. Its great in sauces, marinades, brines, glazes, cakes, pies, truffles, and cookies. And its an important ingredient in many holiday favorites like Crown Roast of Pork with Fennel-Apple Stuffing & Cider-Bourbon Sauce, Eggnog Crme Anglaise, and Bourbon Balls.

6  Dark Voyager (Fortnite) in CHALLENGE 125 ENTRIES by Abbeeroad on: November 07, 2018 01:21:54 PM
My son wanted to be Dark Voyager from Fortnite for Halloween this year. While Spirit Halloween and the Internet had the costume available for a ridiculous amount of money, we went the DIY route! I started with a base of black sweatpants and hoodie and with my trusty hot glue gun added felt, fabric, and craft foam elements to create the character. There is also a strip of light up LEDs, but you can't tell they are on in the fall sunlight. We also did a paper mache helmet for this project, complete with flipable visor (made from a painted piece of a milk jug).

Pictures!

Some in progress pics of the helmet:

And inspiration pic for those of you who are lucky enough to NOT have children obsessed with Fortnite:

Thanks for looking! Happy Halloween! Smiley

Class: Astronomy
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Smash and Grab Shirts
Project Page Link: N/A
Brief Description: I made two *almost* identical shirts for my girls for Halloween. They were "Smash" and "Grab" criminals, because that's what they do: Smash and Grab things, lol.
Project Picture:

Class: Care of Magical Creatures
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: RBG Collar & Costume
Project Page Link: Cricut file is from this website
Brief Description: RBG's collar is pretty intricate. I used by Cricut machine, so it might be cheating, but I did cut this collar out twice for two Halloween events. I decided to use freezer paper for the cut so that I could iron it onto a black t-shirt I owned without ruining the shirt. The collar just peeled right off after Halloween was over! I also made the earrings for this costume, which were just small wooden disks painted and glued to a spare set of plugs.

The Iron Chef Hogwarts Secret Ingredient for November is...

GINGER!

November with its gloomy and rainy days should be brightened up with colorful and spicy foods that bring light and warmth while raising your spirits. Indian cuisine, with its aromas and appetizing combinations of food is perfect in this month. Try an apple chutney, a kind of spicy jam made of apples, sugar, ginger, cinnamon, chili pepper, turmeric and other spices; it is used to season cereals, potatoes, legumes and other dishes but it is delicious with chickpea batter-fried vegetables.

CLM is a crafting machine! Our families did a little swap (we are behind!)...here's what her family sent to mine!

This AWESOME shark pouch for my 9 year old:

Lined with minecraft fabric!

The letters from her kiddos (and her) and some extra minecraft fabric for us to play with:

The seriously impressive drawings from her daughter:

DJ and I particularly liked the sushi. Smiley And we got a chuckle out of her "fail."

And of course, CLM had to make something for me:

It's so sturdy and awesome - it's like there's cardboard in there, lol.

Love it all, CLM + Fam! Hoping to get your mail out soooon!!! Smiley

Wow! The new semester is off to a great start already! Except for me, lol!

Sorry I'm late with the Iron Chef prompt, guys. The girls got coxsackie over the weekend, so it's been a bit of a rough week in our house! Thanks for the patience!

With that being said...

The Secret Ingredient for October is...

LEEKS!

Leeks can be categorized as summer and winterthe winter harvest begins in October and produces a larger, stronger flavored vegetable than the warmer month version. They can keep for up to two weeks in the refrigerator and will even do well frozen. The main ingredient in leek and potato soup, this elongated green and white stalk is also tasty as part of a vinaigrette or simply braised and enjoyed as a side dish.
