1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Journal from c. 1912 Book on: August 21, 2007 01:14:01 PM

After seeing the fabulous journal created here - https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=119979.0 - I decided to have a go at an old book I recently acquired after my grandfather's passing.

Actually, a week passed while I agonized over cutting up a 90-year-old book.  Finally, after deciding I'd get more use out it as a journal, and that I could still use the guts for something else, I went for it.

Front cover:

Inside end pages.  I left the end pages because I liked them.

Close-up on the bookplate, I thought it was cool.

Open book.  You can't tell but I used nice resume paper in cream and white.  I added the ribbon.

This was my first ever attempt at book binding.  The tutorial - http://www.daydreamingonpaper.com/0204.html - recommended by  parlervousfrancais is the only one I've ever looked at and thought I could actually do.  I am never happy with what I make, but I am really happy with this one.  Of course, I haven't used it yet so it could all fall apart.  But I sure hope not.

Comments and criticism gladly accepted.
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Tree of life pendants and bracelet on: August 21, 2007 12:51:51 PM
First post!

I was inspired by this post:
to make my own tree of life jewelry.

First up was this autumn-esque attempt.  I'm proud of it for my first time, but not entirely happy with it, so I may dismantle it or try to jazz it up some other way.

Next was a winter theme.  I used some freshwater pearls left to me by my grandmother.  I like this one better than my first, but am still not entirely content with it.

Finally, after seeing all of these, my mom asked if I could make her a bracelet.  So using a smaller ring and a little less wire, and a lot of curse words later, I made this:

It covers all the seasons, going from Spring to Winter.  I think my favorite is Summer.

I am, of course, not fully happy with it, but she likes it.  I'm going to add a string of beads to connect the two and make it a true bracelet.  I wanted to use ribbon, but my mom didn't like that idea.  I guess since it is for her she gets some say.

Thanks for looking, comments and criticism gladly accepted!
