6  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Quail egg scotch eggs on: August 29, 2018 02:10:01 AM
I have been a bit of a domestic goddess this morning. By 9am  I had made a dozen scotch eggs using quail eggs that I bought last week. I toasted two crusts from the end of a loaf of bread with the intention of putting them in the food blender.... it has died..  Out came a jug and rolling pin and I bashed the toasted crusts into crumbs. After boiling the little eggs for three minutes I cracked a hens egg into a bowl and set to work wrapping each little egg in sausage meat before dipping it into the egg and rolling it in the breadcrumbs. I much prefer my yolks firm when having scotch eggs.  I have fried the scotch eggs in vegetable oil and put them in the fridge. Tonight I will pop two each in the oven and bake them for tea.

7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / A bit of fabric and a coat hanger on: August 26, 2018 08:36:27 AM
I am supposed to be resting as I have injured my groin,   ouch wince etc... I have been using up some tapestry fabric that has languished in my loft forever. I have a roll of it big enough to carpet my staircase that I was given years and years ago. Today I have stitched a couple of storage thingummajigs for my craft room. I may at some point embroider it... and then again I might not.

9  COOKING / Dessert / Boozy cherries on: July 10, 2018 08:55:12 AM
In our 'Christmas Drinks Cabinet'  we had what we thought was sloe gin in a glass decanter. (I need to label them) It must be three years old at least. Turns out to be cherry gin.  I have decanted the cherry gin into another glass decanter and made a simple sugar syrup.  I added the gin infused cherries to the sugar syrup and cooked them for a few minutes. I have put them into a large jar and they are cooling on the kitchen worktop as I speak. The sugar syrup will absorb some of the cherry gin flavour and the cherries will be sweeter because of the syrup.... They are very moreish and not the slightest bit mushy. If I can leave them alone they will be lovely in a week or two.  I am thinking of serving them with good ice cream. The syrup will go into cocktails.

I have a ton of little pebbles  the size of a small hen's egg in my stash. Yesterday, I sat in the garden and painted a few.  I tried a uploading a picture of the tree one but still can't upload... Am I doing something wrong?
