721  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Cheap-o Pink Pussycat Handbag on: January 22, 2005 03:00:49 PM
Wow great job. Wasnt it hard to embroider through such hard/thick material?

Thanks! What I got for a dollar was actually very pliable vinyl. It wasn't hard to embroider it at all - the hard part was detaching and then reattaching the inner lining before and after. I also discovered that the smaller the needle, the better, with this kind of vinyl. BTW, this kitty motif matches a sweater I got at the thrift shop - it was so plain, I decided to do a kitty head on it too. I'll post it in the clothing section.

At the local Dollar Tree they had little cheapie purses for a buck. They looked so plain, so I bought a pink one and decided to embroider it. The material is some kind of vinyl made to feel like leather, and the handles are just chrome.

I had the Sublime Stitching Kitties embroidery kit on hand, so I embroidered a very feminine pussycat on one side and "kitty" on the other. I took it to work yesterday for the first time and got many compliments. Hurray for Dollar Tree and Sublime Stitching!  Cheesy Sorry for the poor quality pix.

724  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Vintage airplane-themed desk photo on: January 22, 2005 07:27:49 AM
My husband is crazy about airplanes. He also grew up in Pennsylvania. So I found a vintage late '30s postcard of the old Allentown airport on eBay for $3.  At Dollar Tree I got a plain black wooden frame the approximate size of the postcard. I matted the postcard with tape on a plain white piece of cardboard and put it in the frame. As a final touch I grabbed a toy prop plane and hotglued it to the edge of the frame so it looks like it's "taking off". Needless to say, he keeps this on his desk all the time! (Sorry about the cat butt and the poor quality photo.)

Anything with the Beatles on it is okay with me. Except, of course, thongs, beer bottles, and analgesics. Anyway, congrats on an awesome project very well done!

Bring a friend over to your place. A trusted friend. Order in some pizza, put some music on, and the two of you get cleaning! With trash bags! And ask yourselves with each item, Do I need this? Will I use this? Is it absolutely necessary to my well being? If not, toss it. If it is necessary, place it in a spot where it can be of some use. Good luck! (I"ve done this many times with my kids room - minus the pizza and friend - but then again, I am so anal, that EVERYTHING in their room would get tossed  - I don't need help with that!  Cheesy

I LOVE those little tiny white Christmas lights for $1 a box...they do so much for atmosphere..and yes, they can be very romantic when all the other lights are out! You can line the walls where they meet your ceiling...use tacks to prop them up - just remember not to stick the tacks through the wires! ouch!  Shocked
729  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Recommended pillow stuffing? on: January 16, 2005 03:58:03 PM
Hi! I made some awesome pillows, sewn by hand; but a few months later they are now "floppy" due to I guess the cheapo filling I used. I want to rip the seam out of one side of each and re-fill with newer, better stuffing. Does anyone recommend a good brand of fiberfill that won't go all limp on me? Thanks!
