2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Ugly Betty Dress Challenge on: January 16, 2007 11:31:31 AM
I just saw this on the Ugly Betty website and thought how perfect for us!...
Thinking we could do a lot better than Project Runway contestants did last season.

Have you got the skills to design a fabulous couture dress? Do you have the creativity to blow past obstacles? Here's your chance to prove it! Create a dress that will appear in an episode of ABC's Golden Globe-nominated series Ugly Betty!

Here's the deal: Christina, Mode magazine's resident keeper of "the closet," is commissioned by a prominent celebrity to design a dress to be worn at a formal public event-- but she's snowed in at the office! With twelve hours to execute her design and no fabric to work with, Christina is forced to the use everyday office supplies to make her creation.

That's where you come in. Help Christina make the formal dress!

Submit drawing(s) or sketch(es) of your Design, showing both the back and front of the garment, along with instructions on how to construct it (i.e. materials used, shape, form and color) only using office supplies such as tape, bubble wrap, shopping bags, calendars, shoe boxes, hole punchers, paper clips or newspaper, just to name a few. Also, submit an original Essay in 100 words or less, discussing the underlying concept for the Design.

A dress based on the winning design will appear in an upcoming episode of the show! The winning "designer" will receive a trip for two (2) to Los Angeles, CA for the taping of the Ugly Betty television show scheduled to take place on 02/02/2007, where a dress based upon the winner's Design will be incorporated in the Show.

What are you waiting for?

It's time to REALLY make it work!

3  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Tips for Participating in Craft Fairs / Buyers Market of American Craft on: August 09, 2004 10:02:29 AM
I went to this show in Phila this weekend to check it out. Definitely felt pretty high end. Lots of jewelry, safe looking... pearls, semiprecious, and for those who want to look like an artsy 50something year old, dichroic glass; woven or batiked silk garments; some pottery and wood items; judaica; and lots of glass bowls, vases and ornaments.

I believe that booths are about $1500+ and you have to provide slides, etc. It's only open to resellers of crafts (art galleries, gift stores) so hopefully you end up make that money back plus...

4  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Project Linus :: Blankets on: March 10, 2004 09:37:55 AM
Great for those knitters/crocheters who have made all their friends scarves and still have the jonesing for knitwear...

Our volunteers, known as "blanketeers", provide new, handmade, washable blankets to be given as gifts to seriously ill and traumatized children, ages 0-18. It is Project Linus' policy to accept blankets of all sizes, depending on the needs of the local chapters. All styles of blankets are welcome, including quilts, tied comforters, fleece blankets, crocheted or knitted afghans, and receiving blankets in child-friendly colors.
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Ideas for Table Decorations? on: February 10, 2004 02:53:26 PM
I am in charge of decorating a major fundraising dinner event for a foodbank. Each year is a different theme... this year it's "Gold Rush" (as in Levi's, gold nuggets, etc). I need to come up with some ideas for the table toppers (they can't be more than $7 each)... any ideas?

The table seat about 8 people and the colors are bluejean blue, bandana red, and of course gold.
