1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Brain Pendants! on: May 28, 2014 01:12:28 PM
I couldn't find a mold of a tiny brain so I made one myself. Here are the resulting pendants, in white stoneware, cone 6.

The cords are vegan waxed cotton and adjustable:

2  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Discussion and Questions / Small Kiln in Apartment? on: October 22, 2013 09:54:31 AM
I just wondered if it's considered safe to use a small kiln (like a Paragon) in an apartment? Does anyone have experience with this?

I want to make jewellery so they will be small pieces. The paragon I've looked at (the blue one; firefly" is one possibility) runs on a regular household 120 volt current.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
3  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Tips for Participating in Craft Fairs / Cheapest (and best) way to package fridge magnets? on: September 03, 2013 12:56:07 PM
Hi! I'll be participating in a xmas bazaar and am going to be selling, among other things, resin fridge magnets.

What's the best way to package them when someone buys one?

It seems to be the best option to sell them stuck onto a piece of metal but where do I get small pieces of metal for cheap? These magnets are cast in ice cube trays.

It'd be great to sell each one in it's own Altoids-type "tiny tin" but that'll get too expensive....unless someone knows of a source where I can get the tiny tins in bulk and that have no writing on them?

4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Wrap Bracelet From Turquoise Druks on: May 08, 2013 06:36:45 PM
My Mother-In-Law bought me these Turquoise druks (the name for a simple, round bead, and it rhymes with "trucks"...Yeah, I never knew *either*). I had asked if she could find some turquoise about the size of a "mature pea".The bracelet wraps around 3 times. She got me these and I made this:

I found this cool Petroglyph shank button at a favourite Fabric Store in Tucson called "Fabrics That Go"....no, not Fabrics TO Go, but Fabrics THAT Go. Someday I'll ask them to explain the name of the store:

5  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / I Made A Brain! (now with working pictures!) on: May 05, 2013 12:57:10 PM
First I made this based off of a tutorial I found online:

Then I made a two-part mold of it using that purple putty (I forget the name!):

Then I made a dozen half-brains, because I thought the full-size brain would make the resin overflow.:

I also thought that if I used the full-sized brain I could make it bas relief, like the brain is stuck in the resin.....I'm just notsure!

6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / I made some of the ever-popular wrap bracelets on: May 04, 2013 03:53:33 PM
The black lace is waxed (vegan) cotton. So anybody can wear these!

Sorry that it's a little blurry:

This one is green:

7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / How Do You Keep a Super-Long Bead Thread From Getting Tangled? on: February 14, 2013 10:51:30 AM
I'm making those wrap bracelets and am having a very hard time keeping the thread from getting tangled....and yes, I wax it before I use it. What can I do? Huh
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Jeweler's Grade on: December 09, 2012 12:45:35 PM
What does jeweler's grade" mean? I was looking at ICE resin and everywhere I keep hearing that it's "Jeweler's Grade".

What does this mean exactly? Scratch-resistant? Fade resistant? That it won't soften over time? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Is the Wax on "Waxed Cotton" Cord Beeswax? on: November 30, 2012 09:36:56 AM
This is a question I've had for a long time but can't seem to get a definitive answer to. I want to be able to guarantee that the trinkets I make are vegan but I can't if the wax on stringing cord comes from bees. Does anyone know?

I'd really appreciate finding out!
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Where can I buy plain, cotton crew-neck t-shirts? on: September 15, 2012 02:26:54 PM
Does anyone know of anyplace I can get them? I live in Hamilton but can order off the internet if need be!

I'm looking for both long-sleeved and also short-sleeved, crew neck (not scoop or V) and of decent-weight fabric? Not the kind that you can put your hand behind and see right through....

I'd really appreciate it!!!
