11  COOKING / Dessert / Cinder Toffee/Honeycomb on: November 17, 2007 12:33:10 PM
I first made cinder toffee (as we call it in the UK) a few weeks back and haven't stopped making it since. To be honest I'm surprised how well it turned out! Next time I make it, I may stir it into ice cream.  Tongue

Cinder toffee (Honeycomb)

5 tbsp granulated sugar
2 tbsp golden syrup
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

1) Heat the sugar and syrup gently in a saucepan until sugar has melted, begins to boil and turns a golden yellow colour.

2) Whisk in bicarb with a hand whisk then pour quickly onto baking parchment. Allow to set in the fridge.

12  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / My wedding crafting day! on: April 05, 2007 11:59:01 AM
After picking up a tonne of silver wire and beads in town yesterday I set about making the cake garland, BM hair pins and making my tiara as shiny silver as possible (I don't care what the dress lady says I'm wearing my tiara...I think she was trying to get a sale out of me  Wink ).

The idea of the cake garland is that one sits around the base of each layer. We're just having 2 circular layers in plain white icing.

All I have left to do now is make the butterfly headbands for the FG. All the craftshops I went into yesterday had sold out of silver tiara bands.
13  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / brightening the metal on a vintage necklace on: March 26, 2007 09:23:41 AM
I've not long finished my tiara for my wedding day it's made from an 1950's necklace.

I went for my first dress fitting on Saturday and it doesn't match the dress  Cry  The metal detail on my dress is very white, bright, but my tiara looks so dull and has an antique finish in comparison. I've cleaned the tiara as much as I can but it is still not bright enough.

Is there any way I can brighten the metal? Could I use something like an enamel paint?

I've fallen in love with my tiara and don't want to have to get another one.

here are some pics of my tiara and the detail of the dress (it isn't me in the picture!)

Thanks in advance
14  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Necklace/tiara project on: January 19, 2007 12:54:04 PM
I've started to get back into making jewellery and here are my recent projects.

A choker

I get married in June and after being quoted 125 for my dream tiara I decided to make my own.

before: (A 1950's necklace I picked up for 5 in a charity shop)

After (ignore the wires sticking up at the back, these have now gone and it has been neatened up) Smiley

I must admit I'm really pleased with how they worked out, and how much money they have saved me  Grin .
15  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / My "Sock" projects! on: January 12, 2007 11:31:26 AM
After lurking on Craftster for many years I've decided I should really post. I was inspired by the sock monkey/monsters I saw on here. Hope you like them. (Sorry for the links rather than pics)

Captain Jack ....um...Monkey for my fiance
