i swear i'm not a total ass. i lost my job and we had our net cut off. now it's on, and i went to send today to find THIS:

I will have the Husband go tomorrow to send - and i will grovel in submission to my partner. After all the wonderful things I received:

Chocolates that are suspiciously Miracle Max-ian

the shirt i am wearing right this second

this sweet little cross stitch hanging on my wall

and proving it fits (and posted on fb to make all my nerd friends Mega Jealous)

i am soooooo sorry. if you want an 'i'm an ass' extra package, tell me and i will do so. Sad

5  Steampunk Frock Coat in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Myrdda on: February 10, 2014 10:59:49 AM
So, further to this: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=430632.0#axzz2scefS5lu

I made a frock coat for my daughter for a cosplay thing she's doing. I'm not even really clear what it is. I don't think I even care to ask - I just was pleased to make the coat.

I DID use a pattern - the Simplicity 4923 version, as I found upon further research that the 18th century pattern I had used originally was the father of the Simplicity pattern. Why create more problems that I had to?

So here we go:

The back of the coat. the sleeves and the hood are grommeted and laced on, the buckles on the back are purely decorative. The ones on the sleeves and pockets and front are functional.

the Daughter in her happy coat Cheesy

Better shot of the pockets. She hasn't taken it off since she put it on.

6  Frock Coat prototype in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Myrdda on: January 06, 2014 10:47:01 PM
A bit of background: sometime in the spring of 2013 I became terribly, blackly depressed. This continued right through the summer and fall, right up to just before xmas this year. I wasn't able to care for my garden, which became a mess of weeds; I cried for no reason to the point of feeling I was going to go insane; nothing was at all happy; I didn't go on Craftster (which was a daily obsession); I was losing weight, and wasn't even really happy about that. And because I felt that way - I couldn't craft anything. For anyone. For any reason. And then, right before xmas, I finally spit it all out in a hugely grotesque outpouring to my best friend. And though it felt shameful and terrible - it freed me from the dark blackness I was in. I pulled xmas out of thin air, making things left right and center, in an effort to make things better for my family.

And then this past weekend, I decided to make something for myself. For the first time in a VERY long time. And this was it. It's a prototype / first draft of the steampunk version of this coat i'll be making for my daughter before March. I give you the 1713 Men's Frock Coat (which Jack Sparrow's coat was based off). I have nothing but respect for seamstresses and tailors of the day - they did all this shit by hand.

So: hanging up in my craft room

the original pattern I printed off the web (for free!! but no instructions - boo!). It took me about three hours to blow the pattern up and trace it onto tissue paper. That was so not a good time.

pattern pieces laid out - material is some old curtains i had hoarded .... i mean SALVAGED from who the heck knows where

See me in the mirror? And how I haven't showered in two days? Or changed out of jammies? The coat was my obsession

Me wearing coat. That gibbledy bit in the back BOTHERS me - but it's a first draft. Halloween costume once i fix it.

This coat doesn't have pockets yet, or buttons down the front and in the tail. 34 buttons!! i managed to find five that matched in my button hoard .... collection. I'm in the process of trying to find some that won't kill me in price.

So - this is more like my Welcome Back to the World project. And i'm happy to be back.

10  Labyrinth mask in CHALLENGE 86 ENTRIES by Myrdda on: May 01, 2013 06:52:23 PM
So, for the Labyrinth swap round 5, I sent my partner BoomerBile a mask (if you've seen the movie, you of course can't forget the ballroom scene!) Although it was slightly damaged in transport, I was so pleased with this, and she was able to fix the tip of the beak that broke.

It started with a cheap dollar store gold mask, which I paper machied over, painted, feathered, and decorated.
