1  Mermaid Cake and Cupcakes in Dessert by TurtlesMama on: February 27, 2011 07:56:40 AM
This was for my daughters 3rd birthday. She wanted a mermaid/under the sea party! The cake was fondant covered with vegan "buttercream" and a butter cake, the mermaid and octopus were also fondant. Cupcakes were vegan vanilla with vegan "buttercream" with fondant octopi. :-)

The mermaid cake:

2  Massive Amounts of Mermaids in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by TurtlesMama on: February 17, 2011 06:04:21 PM
My daughter requested that for her birthday I make her friends mermaid dolls as favors. I am a pushover so here they are! :-)

I still have to make her "special" one, but I don't want to see another mermaid for a VERY long time. Made using a Bit of Whimsy pattern!

3  Mermaid Stuffie in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by TurtlesMama on: February 08, 2011 07:37:02 PM
Here is a doll I made for my daughter for Christmas. This is a cruddy picture at the time I had lame camera, now I have a better camera but dead batteries!

She is made from a pattern by Bit of Whimsy (MerMae). My daughter calls her Alice Mae. My daughter is also obsessed with Alice in Wonderland so I used the awesome Japanese import Alice fabric, one of my favorites. My daughter has now requested mermaid dolls for her birthday for favors for her friends.... 14 dolls are currently in production, goodness gracious!

4  Mermaid Birthday Invitation in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by TurtlesMama on: February 06, 2011 05:42:14 PM
Here is an invitation I made (the graphics a friend did) but everything else I did. Simple, but I love the outcome!

5  A Mermaid Birthday Ideas in Party Planning by TurtlesMama on: February 06, 2011 05:39:23 PM
I am STUCK! I have been planning my daughters third birthday and I am hitting a wall!

She wanted the Little Mermaid, but I didn't want Ariel so I decided a generic mermaid birthday would be easier.

I need some ideas for goodie bags (I am making mermaid dolls for all the kids but what else?), food, decorations, cake (I have a few ideas), ANYTHING. I have a TON of ideas but I feel like they are lame, I guess I just need a kick in the butt and an outside idea or two!

Here is the invitation:

6  A Little Mermaid in Needlework: Completed Projects by TurtlesMama on: February 06, 2011 10:54:41 AM
My daughter is slightly (okay wicked) obsessed with mermaids and has been begging me to stitch her up a mermaid. I didn't want to stitch the actually Little Mermaid because she kinda annoys me, but found this pattern (http://zuill.us/andreablog/category/embroidery/free-patterns/page/4/) and thought it would work.

I am not to excited about her face, I stitched and unstitched several colors and none of them looked right so I decided to just stick with black. The same with her arms, I couldn't find a fleshy looking color, that was the closet I had, so she kinds looks a little jaundiced.  Wink Her hair is my favorite, I was originally going to use a strand of metallic red *which you can see if you look close at one part of her hair* but it kept getting stuck and looked off, so I stopped. Her hair is comprised of straight stitches, back stitches and split stitches. When I originally just did a few stitches to show outline like the original pattern showed, it didn't look right. I really like it this way!

As an added bonus I found this nifty frame for a $1 at Target that matches perfectly! :-)

7  Vintage Valentine **Edited to add finished framed product** in Needlework: Completed Projects by TurtlesMama on: February 02, 2011 05:37:39 PM
All framed up. :-) I LOVE this fabric, I used it like a "frame" then added a few more strips of fabric and framed it in an old frame I had lying around I really love the finished product!

My husband and I are huge tea drinkers. With Valentines day coming up I was looking for something cute to stitch up for him, saw this and instantly knew it HAD to be stitched up for him.

It took a little over five hours to stitch, I think. I used crayon to shade in some of the areas (which I totally think adds to it). Right now its in the hoop and I am not entirely sure if I am going to keep it in the hoop, frame it or make it into a mini quilt.

Sorry for the darker photo:

Here is a picture of the "original design" and the embroidered product:

8  Doodle Stitching in Needlework: Completed Projects by TurtlesMama on: January 30, 2011 04:18:38 PM
A few projects I got done this weekend while being a sloth and watching t.v.

Trying to really "perfect" stitches here. Copied, combined, made up a few patterns and just stitched. I am pretty excited about them as I never really finish stitching projects and excited that my stitches are getting so much nicer! Practice really does make a difference, hahaha.

First one of the weekend:

The last one isn't uploading properly, which is sad because it is my favorite. :-)

All basic stitches, each piece took me about a night to make.

9  Silhouettes in Needlework: Completed Projects by TurtlesMama on: January 30, 2011 04:09:09 PM
I have had this project on my list for quite awhile. I decided I needed to see what the fuss was all about when it comes to Grey's Anatomy so needless to say I have been getting a lot of stitching done (I don't feel as lazy if I stitch and watch).

It took me forever to get a good silhouette of each of my girls. My youngest wasn't going to give me what I wanted so hers is a tad different than her sisters, but I am in love with them. They are stretched onto a piece of wood and sitting on a shelf frame! (Hubby has a thing about me posting pictures of the kidlets faces)  Grin

10  Re: needle book swap gallery in The Swap Gallery by TurtlesMama on: January 18, 2011 10:00:58 AM
I received the most adorable package yesterday from Woobie! I forgot to take a picture of all the nifty trinkets she sent with it before placing them away in my craft area, but she most certainly sent amazing stuff!

Here is the needlebook she sent! I love it!

It has been very gloomy and awful weather here so this was the best picture I could get!

Now to get the sleet and ice to stop and for someone to plow my road so I can get hers sent! :-)
