1  U.K. AND IRELAND / ENGLAND / Job in London for someone with textiles knowledge on: November 21, 2009 02:06:08 AM
I saw a help-wanted sign up at the Handweavers Studio (140 Seven Sisters Road London N77 NS http://handweavers.co.uk/). They're looking for full time help, split between office work and retail, and they require computer skills and textiles knowledge.

I'm not affiliated with this shop in any way (other than as a customer) but I know how the job market is these days, and I wanted to pass this info on to any interested parties.
2  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Discussion and Questions / Sealant for carved tile? on: November 13, 2009 04:11:42 AM
Greetings.  First off, I'm a newbie here, so I'm in the wrong place please accept my apologies.  I've searched the forums and can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

Among other things, I carve tiles, which leaves the ceramic or porcelain exposed (see here for an example: http://cassandra-rising.deviantart.com/art/Celtic-Trivet-95397268).  I would really like to be able to use these tiles in splash guards and on walls - but I'm afraid that the exposed areas would get discolored (particularly from mildew) over time.  Is that worry justified? The tiles I've used as coasters have cleaned easily, but they they don't get the long-term low level grime that an area around a sink would.

Can anyone recommend a sealant that I could put over the tiles that would preserve their appearance and make cleaning easier?  I don't have a kiln, just so you know.
