1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / seeking neon nylon - help! on: July 19, 2008 12:56:24 PM
Hi everyone!
I hope I've posted this in the proper place.
I'm making some bar pads for an old school bmx bike. I can't seem to find any good fabric. I'm looking for something synthetic like nylon. Something that would be fairly dirt resistant & tough (I already thought about dying the cotton checker fabric that I can find, but that'd dirty easily, I think).

basically, I'm looking to make exactly this:

but instead of yellow, hot pink & black.

does anyone have a good supplier for fabric like this? I've looked all sorts of places, even industial upholstry shops, ebay, google, & the like. I know some must exist because the company yanco pads that makes top tube pads for fixed gears makes a pad using the exact fabric I'm looking for. It's just not the same type of pad I'm looking to have, otherwise I'd just support them.

any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated. thank you so much in advance!
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Old projects on: July 25, 2006 02:07:43 PM
I'm moving in a couple of weeks to a studio appartment (with a roommate!), so as you can imagine, I'm downsizing my things quite a bit. Through my cleaning I cam across these old projects of mine that I did when I'd first started embroidering (though little has happened with it since... heh).

The first is a scrap of fabric with a pinstripe design free handed onto it. Kind of uneven, but hey, it was free hand  Cheesy

The second is a scrap of fabric dedicated to my early infatuation with craftster. It was cut from one of my grandmother's old cloth napkins (sorry grandma).

The third is one of the napkins, gone hanky, and embroidered with a tattoo design from a book called 1000 tattoos. It has a lot of old school work in it and I fancy it a lot. Now I have this sweet rockabilly memento from it that is the envy at the weekenders Wink
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Nintendo DS bag on: January 17, 2005 09:36:10 AM
(I hope this goes in here  Undecided it's a bag!)

I needed to have a small bag for the carry of my nintendo (it kept getting lost in my car and other places ^^;; )
So I sat down and decided to make a spiffy one (didn't feel like shelling out $20 for one of those life-less store bought nintendo bags).
-and here it is Smiley

I made it basically like a small Jordy with a flap on it, silky black on the inside

Embroidered a cool star on to it and a martini on a seperate piece of fabric and then machine sewed that on, used the strap from an old army surplus bag that I'd had...

voila  Grin

tell me what you think, i'm open to suggestions! Smiley
