Thanks!  It's actually a Save the Ta Tas magnet!  Smiley
12  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / $15 Headboard into Organization/Inspiration Center! on: November 29, 2006 11:24:20 AM

It's a magnetic chalkboard, pinboard combo!  Now I have a place to put all of my inspirations, plan my DIY and crafty ideas, and keep track of those knitting patterns I always lose.

I was itching for a project so I went to the local thrift store and picked up this headboard for $15.

I put down three layers of magnetic primer (should have done more...) and then a layer of chalkboard paint on top of that.

Then I had a piece of homasote cut to the same size and covered it with some fabric I had laying around.  Simply screw in some hooks and eyes and voila!

I'm also going to put hooks on top of the chalkboard so that the pinboard can hang over it to save some space.

Hope this inspires other people, too!
13  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: vegetarian/vegan recipe books? on: November 26, 2006 06:35:03 PM
I have a TON of vegetarian and vegan cookbooks.  There is only one that I reach for again and again:

The author of the cookbook, Isa, also has a lot of free recipes available on her website, http://www.theppk.com/recipes/, and she even has her own vegan cooking show!  You can find the videos on google video here:

In sum, Isa rocks the house.  Check out her vegan cupcake cookbook too.  http://vegancupcakes.wordpress.com

14  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Celebrating entrance into womanhood! on: March 18, 2006 10:06:13 AM
When I was growing up, some girls actually were taken out of school for the day to have a special celebratory day with their mother - I was always jealous!  I got a hug from my mom and a trip to the drug store.  Not bad, but not fantastic either.

If you're going to send her tampons, get "slims" - I remember that's what I started with and it was much less overwhelming!  I am a cotton pad/sea sponge girl myself, but I doubt I would have been keen on that in 7th grade.  However, if an older, wiser woman gave some to me and explained how great they were, and how your period needn't be seen as "icky," I might have been a much earlier convert.  I personally thing sea sponges are less tricky to insert than a diva cup/keeper, or even applicator tampon.

I definitely recommend a small, cute clutch type bag that she can carry with her discreetly.  Possibly a ring or a bracelet with red beads or moon designs, and you can even get yourself one, too, so she feels a stronger connection to you.  Smiley

You're a great big sis!
15  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: another tivoli on: February 03, 2006 05:16:31 PM
Your pictures and your blog both seem to be down.  I can't wait to see this, though!

I'm just about done with the waist decreases on mine.  My SSKs look kind of messy, especially compared to my K2TOGs.  Oh well, it's my first wearable non-scarf/hat!

I hope I get to see yours soon, I bet it's lovely.  Smiley

Not in Eastern Mass, but I'm getting married at The Meeting House in Tiverton, RI.  It's like... an hour from boston.  Cheap (relatively!), cute, not pretentious at all!  Might be worth the drive...  PM me if you want more info!

ps- it's much more charming in person!

Hey quarkiegirl-

The 57 stops right out front (literally!) of the cafe we meet at.  We'd love to have you join us!

I'd be more than happy to help you with knitting questions (should you have any) but I'm a newish knitter myself.  However, we have a member named Lillian who has been knitting since she was 7 and already offered to teach anyone who came to the meeting.

So come!  Smiley
