1  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Knit Night Cupcakes - Marzipan Decorations w/ Tutorials on: February 25, 2008 12:03:29 PM
well, i had about 22 hours of practice two days before the shoot.  Smiley  It took SO long to make all the pieces they wanted, but it was worth it!

wow, these are amazing!  What a fantastic idea, with wonderful execution!  They're beautiful and totally hot!
4  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Thermal from Knitty on: October 13, 2007 07:50:44 AM
I just started the thermal in cascade fixation and I swatched on size 2, 4 and finally US 6 needles to get gauge.  I'm actually making size B (when I planned on size A) because I still didn't get gauge exactly and but I didn't want to go up to US 7 or 8 needles.

I know I generally knit a little tight, but it seems ridiculous to me that I'm using size 6 (4 mm) needles!  I feel like I must be doing something wrong, but I've checked it over and over again.  Think it's just because fixation is so stretchy, so it's easier to knit tighter?

I can't wait to get through the twisted rib so I can start on the endless waffle stitch!

This is absolutely genius. I clicked the "This Rocks" button because it truely is rocking.

What does fondant taste like though?

it's not fondant, it's marzipan.  Smiley  it's made from almonds, so it tastes like very sweet almonds!  almost slightly cherry-like.

Thanks everyone!

I totally made up the decorations as I went along.  The cake part of the cupcake is from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, the best book ever!

**Tutorials added***

I wanted to put this in the Vegetarian/Vegan forum, but it's not a recipe or a tip!

Here are some vegan cupcakes I made for a friend's knit night!  It took 4+ hours to make these out of plain marzipan.  It was my first time working with it, and it was a lot of fun!

I tried to make the different stages of knitting projects, so there is casting on, swatching, UFOs (the sweater), FOs (scarves), frogging, and yarn balls.

8  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Vegan Alfredo Sauce! on: December 11, 2006 09:23:32 AM
Thought I might share the recipe that I use to make a vegan alredo sauce:

Alfako Sauce:

1 can coconut milk
2-3 Tbs tamari
2 Tbs tahini paste
2 Tbs nutritional yeast
Fresh cracked black pepper
1 knob of vegan butter (optional)
1 small pinch of sugar (optional)
1 dash of nutmeg (optional)
Arrowroot powder/flour/cornstartch (optional, for thickening)

Directions and notes about the recipe on my blog:

Enjoy!
9  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: $15 Headboard into Organization/Inspiration Center! on: November 30, 2006 10:21:28 AM
Thanks everyone!

It would be cute as a real headboard, but I'm not using it in conjunction with a bed.  I might set it on top of a (non-existent) desk and then anchor it to the wall to make sure it doesn't fall over.

It's heavy enough that I certainly wouldn't want it falling on me!

Let me guess...vegan, right?  Grin

Haha.  Yes.  I'm busted!
