1  Purple zig-zaggy scarf :) in Knitting: Completed Projects by miakachan on: December 24, 2007 03:36:17 AM
Hi!  I made this scarf for a friend of mine for Secret Santa this year.  I got the pattern from a book my mum had given me as a child, though I adjusted the width a bit to make it more scarf-friendly.  Anyway, I'm pleased with how this turned out since it was my first time knitting (!), and I'm excited to learn new techniques!  In particular, this scarf turned out a bit tighter than I would have liked...is that a result of using too small a pair of needles?  The yarn called for a 6.00 mm, but it still seemed a bit tight.

Thank you for checking this out, and I would love feedback from you experienced knitters on tips I might use in the future!

2  Re: A really long zipper... in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions by miakachan on: May 22, 2006 12:57:05 AM

I have the lime green/white one! It's really neat. My mom got it for me somewhere in Boston while on a business trip. It's somewhat annoying though because everyone ALWAYS wants you to unzip it completely and then THEY brag about YOUR bag to other people, resulting in the other people wanting to see it completely unzipped too. Sucks for those of us who basically carry around their whole life/room in a bag.  Tongue

Gosh, I love those colours!

Well, I didn't make it.  My aunt got it for me while on vacation, but I thought it was something neat anyway.

4  The life of the party! in Party Planning by miakachan on: May 08, 2005 08:45:55 PM

So this wasn't 100% made by me, but I'm rather excited about it anyway.  A birthday party for two of my close friends is coming up, and I thought it'd be cool to have a life-sized Tom Welling be part of our gift as a creative sort of card.  Originally, he was a poster, but he was painted then cut out.  (I don't have a colour printer, and I wanted to use up my paper credit at school.)  A bit of cardstock would make him perfect for propping up on the couch.

Life-size posters of a variety of WB actors can be found at the WB website:

5  Ribboned Photo Board in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by miakachan on: January 16, 2005 11:47:59 AM
So this huge ugly pinboard was sitting in our basement, and I thought I'd do something with it.  I removed the metal border around the edges, which left me with just the pin board.  I then took a piece of blue cloth, and taped it around the board temporarily.

Using a grid for the squares, I then lined the ribbons accordingly, weaving them in and out, then taping them down.  Once everything was in place (the ribbon was taped to the cloth), I peeled the blue cloth off the board, and sewed down the ribbon at each cross-section, so that the photos may stay in place like in pockets.

Although I haven't done it yet, I plan to buy flat tacks to pin the fabric in the back, and buy some hooks to hang it on the wall.

Anyhoo, hope you all liked it.  I've seen this in Linen 'n Things once (where it cost a very hefty price), but the true inspiration was originally from a Buffy episode. @[email protected]

The ribbons on the board look much shinier than they are.   Huh
