1  Crochet bows in Crochet: Completed Projects by MerryGlas on: January 31, 2013 02:18:32 AM
Hi all,
I've been making hundreds (well, maybe not that many, but lots) of these little crochet bows, and I thought that someone else might want to have a go too - that way it isn't just me filling every corner of the room with them  Smiley They were adapted from a french pattern I came across on Pinterest but I've changed it slightly to make it even easier (and cuter!) There's a photo tutorial on my blog but the pattern is ridiculously simple (UK terms):

Make a magic ring. *Chain 3, and make 2 trebles into the ring; chain 3 (from the top of the second treble) and slip-stitch into the ring. Repeat once from *.
**Chain 4, skip the chain closest to the hook, and make 1 double crochet in each chain back to the ring (3 dc); slip-stitch into the ring. Repeat once from **. Pull the ring tight, snip off and secure all ends, and you're done.

Repeat until you have too many bows to know what to do with! Hope you like them Smiley

2  Christmas wreath in Crochet: Completed Projects by MerryGlas on: December 03, 2012 09:33:24 AM
I made a wreath! It may be small, but it's so cute Smiley With a little help from Attic 24 and a little initiative, I think it worked out quite nicely! There's more pics on my blog but I think you get the gist of it here...and it's reusable  Wink

3  Rainbow ripple baby blanket in Crochet: Completed Projects by MerryGlas on: October 04, 2012 09:41:27 AM
I'm still pretty new to crochet but I've just finished my first baby blanket so I thought I'd share! It's pretty big for a baby blanket, big enough to snuggle up in for years hopefully Smiley I used the ripple pattern from Attic 24, with Stylecraft DK yarn in a random pattern of colours. I'm really pleased with how it's turned out, I love this new hobby! There are lots more pics on my blog (it's my first - I took lots!)

4  Crochet housewarming in Crochet: Completed Projects by MerryGlas on: August 22, 2012 07:44:20 AM
My friend has just moved in with her boyfriend, and since she's given me a load of house-related gifts before I wanted to make her something to celebrate. I'm thinking about what else to make, but so far I've been working on a set of coasters... Hope she likes them!

5  Crochet newbie - fingerless gloves in Crochet: Completed Projects by MerryGlas on: August 07, 2012 05:40:17 AM
I only taught myself to crochet a couple of weeks ago, but I'm already so excited by it - I'm building up a library of projects for the future! These gloves were my second ever project (first was a peg bag - boring!) which I finished yesterday, and being able to wear something on the second day after I started making it was an incredible feeling! (I'm used to doing things like papercutting and needlefelting - fun, satisfying, but not great for wearable crafts... Smiley)

It's hard taking pictures of fingerless gloves that actually look like anything!  Roll Eyes I wrote about them with more pics on this blogpost http://landofbreadandhoney.wordpress.com/2012/08/06/the-big-reveal-fingerless-gloves/

Now I'm planning to start on a baby blanket - my SIL is due at the beginning of September. Any recommendations for patterns / yarns (UK based)?

6  Besan dosa - gluten free Indian flatbreads in Vegetarian / Vegan by MerryGlas on: July 20, 2012 11:26:05 AM
It's been a while since I posted anything here so time to break the silence  Smiley I made these besan dosa last night and they were so tasty it seems wrong to keep the recipe a secret! They're gluten free as they're made from gram flour, which is from chickpeas or split peas instead of wheat; completely vegan, and super healthy...but the reason I made them (being neither coeliac or vegan) was that they taste amazing!

I used courgette but you could use any sort of veg I think - spinach would be good, any other sort of squash, even broccoli or cauliflower at a push (but it would need to be chopped up small!) And you could always leave the veg out if you prefer.

135g gram flour
35g brown rice flour
1/2 tsp salt
200g water
1 tsp garam masala
1/2 courgette, grated

Mix all together into a thick batter, heat a flat griddle, and cook like pancakes - simple! The full recipe and more pictures are on my blog  Smiley

7  'The Owl and the Pussycat' papercut - pic heavy! in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by MerryGlas on: September 26, 2011 03:17:57 AM
Since I posted photos of my fairytale papercut (currently winging its way across the Atlantic to its new home!) I've been working on another, this time based on the nonsense poem 'The Owl and the Pussycat' by Edward Lear. I learned this poem off by heart as a toddler and used to recite it every night before bed, so it holds a special place in my heart! This measures about 8cm diameter and was cut with a craft knife. The frame actually has glass in in real life but I couldn't get a photo without reflections so I took it out!

8  Fairytale papercutting in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by MerryGlas on: September 13, 2011 11:36:23 AM
I made this one afternoon a couple of weeks ago, tried to post about it at the time but the photo uploader wouldn't co-operate so I gave up! I didn't have any particular fairytale in mind, in case you try to place all of the elements...It's an amalgamation of lots of familiar themes from fairytales in general. The writing really isn't that good, for some reason I wrote it in a very different style to usual - you know when you start something badly and it won't go right? - but I liked the actual design so I kept it anyway! I can't make the same design twice but perhaps if I keep this I can try something similar (with better text!) The whole design measures about 11cm x 8cm, and the quote is from CS Lewis. The second photo is the closest to the true colour...

9  Re: OTT Game of Thrones Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by MerryGlas on: September 13, 2011 10:30:40 AM
I received from Saucyimp - I'll start by saying that this is the best swap parcel ever! I love it all  Smiley Warning - pic heavy!

So, here's everything all together:

The main OTT is the crocheted Stark necklace, complete with direwolf pendant - I've not taken this off since I opened it...
An action shot :

Aaannd a close-up, because it's just amazing  Smiley:

A mug cozy inspired by Tyrion, my favourite character - my first mug cozy and already jealously guarded (although I have to share it with my husband as he loves it too!):

And this gorgeous little dragon, currently in residence on my mantelpiece:

Saucyimp also sent the material you can see in the background (I've just started quilting) and a bag of Laffy Taffy - which is no more...
I've really enjoyed this swap and had a fab partner...when's the next round?  Roll Eyes

10  A couple of papercut cards in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by MerryGlas on: August 09, 2011 06:10:02 AM
Having abandoned my craft knife for a bit, I went back to it to make a couple of papercut cards - and it felt good  Cheesy I'd forgotten how satisfying even a simple design can be! The first one was inspired by a traditional design I saw somewhere, the second was a last-minute design that I made up as I went along!

(The colour isn't quite true on either of these, they're not as garish as they look!)
