Challenge: Bertie Botts: Apple
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Poison Apple
Brief Description: I was inspired by the apple from Snow White and dyed this yarn yo go with it. To me, the apple would not exist or pose a threat without the witch, so I had to incorporate her into it as well.

**I am excited to find a way to participate in the HPC again because dyeing is a Craftster category. I really hope my knitting will become more frequent and I'll be able to participate that way.**

Class: Defence against the dark arts
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Charmander
Brief Description:
The Hinkypunk is a devilish creature. I have dyed a yarn to mirror the flame thrown by the hinkypunk in hope that it will be scared off by the replica flames.

Class: Care of Magical Creatures
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Orchids & Fairylights
Brief Description: Bowtruckles are known to be tree dwellers. I thought it would be fun to try to attract some to me so I could study them close up. I made this hat, which cabling patterns resemble the trees that bowtruckles live in.

Made from SouthWest Trading Co. Luxury Llama 1.5 skeins.

Class: Transfiguration
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Hopsalots
Brief Description:
I was practicing my transfiguration on a pair of shoes, trying to turn them into rabbits. It kind of worked..

I made these out of Cascade 220 held double on size 8mm needles. I put them through the wash 3 times to felt them down to the proper size and then sewed the ears on. They're a bit floppy but I think they're adorable!

It's a bit late but I wanted to post an update on my OWL. I worked my butt of on it and got this far...

...until I ran out of yarn.
This is all that's left:

Sad Face Sad Hubby let me order some more but I'll have to wait for it to get here before I finish it.

So instead I've been working on my NEWT. I finished the waist decreases on my sweater. I have 1.5" of knitting in pattern then I can start the bust increases. It's actually going quite well.

I've finished another project, but I haven't gotten around to blocking and photographing it yet. Hopefully I'll get that done soon.

I'm loving everyone's projects! That Neville hoop and drawing! I totally need to start my horcrux hunt!

Class: Arithmancy
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Magnificent Maelificent Spin
Brief Description: This was fibre from Gnome Acres in the Maelificent colourway. I divided it into two and predrafted it to have a more subtle colour change. I then navajo plied it so it is a three ply yarn and should be self striping. I have about 220 yards of it. It might become a shawlette.

The raw material:

The finished yarn. (It hasn't been washed or whacked yet)

Class: Herbology
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Stripey Socks
Brief Description: I realize that I've posted about 3 herbology classes but some just didn't fit right so they've been moved into different categories. This will be the last time you see a herbology post from me this semester. These are my mom's birthday socks. They're about a month late but I hope she thinks they were worth the wait. They won't protect her ears for mandrakes but they'll protect her always cold feet from freezing over. They aren't washed yet either.
Project Picture:

Class: Flying
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Food for the Road
Brief Description: Everyone knows that you need to stay alert while flying so you don't bump into buildings, owls, muggle flying crafts and other such things. These are a super filling, vegetarian meal or snack to keep the flyer alert and safe. They are jumbo shells filled with ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese, dill, parsley, onion, and spinach.

My Idiom: A watched cauldron never boils.

What great projects! I've missed a lot while I've been away. I haven't had a lot of crafty time because I got a puppy!

He's a three month old mini austrailian shepherd/ pomeranian cross. He's a huge handful and it took some time to adjust living with him.

His name is Miles. He looks a bit like a fox and we though of naming him Tails from Sonic the Hedgehog. Tails' real name is Miles Prower so we decided to call him Miles.

I'm hoping to finish a pair of socks for my mom very soon and get some more work done on my sweater.

N.E.W.T. Update:
I've done all my swatches! I even bound them off and blocked them! (which I never ever do) But I did make the cable swatches a lot smaller than they could be but I just needed enough to measure width. A bit of cheating is ok, right?

The yarn has good cable definition and I think I might have actually got gauge the first shot :O
I got hubby to take all my measurements and I'll be making the 36" bust size so I have some positive ease. I'm further than I ever was with Vivian and I'm actually confident about this. This is awesome!

I'm going to let my swatches dry while I'm away for the weekend and measure Monday. If they're right, I get to cast on on monday!

ETA: The colour in this picture is off. It's a lighter green and is a bit tweedy.

I chickened out and am changing my N.E.W.T.!!!
Instead of making Vivian:

I signed up for a craftsy class and will be making Portulaca as practice! I had some Patons Classic in a sweater's amount laying around. I decided I spent a lot of money on the yarn for Vivian and I don't want to mess it up. This class should go over how to make a sweater, get a custom fit, and explains a lot about cabling. I know how to cable but it hans't "clicked" yet and I have to look up each cross everytime I get to it. I'll be doing Vivian as a second sweater. For now I give you Portulaca:

Wish me luck Smiley

Recipe Challenge:
House: Ravenclaw
Recipe: Cinnamon Bun Pancakes!!!

4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, just melted (not boiling)
1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon

4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
2-ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon canola or vegetable oil

Prepare the cinnamon filling: In a medium bowl, stir together the butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Scoop the filling into a quart-sized heavy zip baggie and set it aside (see *Tips below).

Prepare the glaze: In a small pan, heat the butter over low heat until melted. Turn off the heat and whisk in the cream cheese until it is almost smooth. Sift the powdered sugar into the pan, stir and add in vanilla extract. Set the pan aside while you make the pancakes.

Prepare the pancake batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Whisk in the milk, egg and oil, just until the batter is moistened (a few small lumps are fine).

Cook the pancakes: Heat a large, nonstick skillet over medium-heat and spray with nonstick spray. Use an ice cream scoop (or 1/3 cup measuring cup) to add the batter to the pan. Use the bottom of the scoop or cup to spread the batter into a circle (about 4-inches in diameter). Reduce the heat to medium low. Snip the corner of your baggie of cinnamon filling and squeeze the filling into the open corner. When your pancake begins to form bubbles, add the filling. Starting at the center of the pancake, squeeze the filling on top of the pancake batter in a swirl (just as you see in a regular cinnamon roll). Cook the pancake 2 to 3 minutes, or until the bubbles begin popping on top of the pancake and it's golden brown on the bottom. Slide a thin, wide metal spatula underneath the pancake and gently but quickly flip it over. Cook an additional 2 to 3 minutes, until the other side is golden as well. When you flip the pancake onto a plate, you will see that the cinnamon filling has created a crater-swirl of cinnamon. Wipe out the pan with a paper towel, and repeat with the remaining pancake batter and cinnamon filling. Re-warm the glaze briefly, if needed. Serve pancakes topped with a drizzle of glaze.

And here's a helpful image for you:

These are SO good!!
