1  To Sash or Not to Sash? in Quilting: Discussion and Questions by Diana dOr on: April 26, 2009 07:25:06 PM
Hey everybody, I'm Diana and I'm first time quilter. I learn by winging it so I have no idea what I'm doing. Phew, alright let's get to the meaty bits.
Last weekend I cut out my pieces- which was fairly successful, despite forgetting to leave selvages. Today I assembled the blocks which came out to be fairly perfect 9"x9"'s but I need some advice on whether or not to add some sashing. I don't mind it being a busy quilt, obviously, but I wonder if it's such an odd size (54"x36" before sewing) that I should add some less busy fabric in between to tie it all together? Like a white with multi colored polka dots or something.
This is just an opinion poll so let it all out!

Sorry, took me a minute to fix the pictures.

2  Pierced Octopus in Knitting: Completed Projects by Diana dOr on: May 25, 2008 11:15:30 PM
Well I made him for the Tattoo Swap using the Hansigurumi pattern, and added a little horseshoe barbell.
I also named him Paco. Used Plymouth Worsted for both the grey & pink. It was a two night project and yet another lesson on patience.

Time for me to share what UrsulaDiamond sent lucky me! It's been a hell of a week and apparently monsoon season in Chicago so I apologize for the lighting. All the things are so wonderful, they all made me smile for different reasons.

All Wrapped up!
Pretty Slippers

Pirate Patch that didn't survive Photobucket resizing
Felted backed plate of tattoo designs
Smaller items of magnets, hairpins, earrings, and patch

4  Cross Stitch Raccoon Mario in Needlework: Completed Projects by Diana dOr on: April 04, 2008 04:36:46 PM
Just a little present for my sweetheart who has a love of the Nintendo Raccoon Mario. Like we all do in our hearts.
I grabbed the pattern off of spritestitch.com and it would have been a one night project had I not needed to play played the game for two nights straight. For inspiration.
It's in a 5"x7" frame & I didn't feel like taking it out so pardon the glare.

Same here. I am like 'please future partner like 'old school' stuff!

Not to give anything away here but you've got a really, really good chance of an old school partner.
Hugs and kisses, One of your modified mod's.

... Who's all about encouraging the pictures. Even if she has to post one.

6  Jordy School Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Diana dOr on: January 14, 2008 08:50:20 PM
Old story, I lost my camera charger and had to use cell phone to celebrate a bag done. I'm sorry about the pictures.
It's based off the Jordy bag, with two straps, some wicked fabric from a scrap bin, and a thrifted napkin appliqued with a felt backing. My New Years resolution involved spreading my craftiness around ie. One knitting project/One sewing project. I like to keep it simple.

Perfectly fits my version of Eunny Jang's 'Endpaper Mitts' and a knitting spiral notebook. And complements it quite nicely if I say so myself. Obviously One billion times cuter in person.

7  Re: Magic Yarn Ball Swap 6 !!!!! in The Swap Gallery by Diana dOr on: October 21, 2007 06:26:03 PM
I was able to get my package tonight and I'm sh*tting myself over how perfect each item is, misslillamae. It took about half an hour to unwrap because I was giggling and 'oohing and ahhhing' so much. You got mad skills girl!

It hurt to resize these pictures, so get over the pic obeseness. The lighting was more suited toward my hangover then picture session, sorry. More information after:

Everything still wrapped up... & Mags, recipes, & a mix cd.

Handmade Goodness and small toys... & Fabrics and retro deliciousness.

Yarn deception... & Closer look at both yarns.

The hairpin is placed on last nights hair... And the MOST AMAZING TOTE OF THE CENTURY!  Shocked

In the competition that is life, misslillamae wins. Or rather I do, because I'm on the recieving end of the following items:
-Fabrics of misc. vintage fabulousness
-Handmade Yellow Felt Pin with buttons and beads
-glow in the dark Dinosaur! and tiny, creepy, sticky Spider toy
-Vintage Clip-on Earring (plans formulating already)
-Several delicious sounding Recipes
-Handful of Hematite and Silver Stitch Markers (I've never had any!)
-Mix CD, with various disclaimers  Grin
-Four Quilted, Handmade Coasters (So effin' amazing)
-Handmade Felt Needle Book
-Handmade Tissue Holder
-Two Handmade Fabric & Button HairPins!
-Knit from plastic bags Square
-Small Flowered Tray
-A Slinky Jr.
-Juxtapoz: Art and Culture Magazine
-Weekly World News (Giant Polar Monster Attacks Cruise Ship, top story)
-The Tote of Everyone's Dreams
-200 yards of recycled, green cotton Yarn
-Parisienne Luxury Kid Mohair lace weight in a Blue Colourway

I was trying to keep the photo count down but closeups are in the album. Honestly, I wouldn't even know where to start gushing. The handmade goods are so well done, the little goodies are quirky and fun, the recipes fit the bill, the CD I'm excited to listen to, and the mag's are amusing as all hell. Both yarns are wonderful colours, the yarn deception was hilarious (I spent half an hour wondering how I was going to make a lace scarf with the winding yarn) and the actual blue colour is more suited to the first picture thats in the foreground and the green is more foresty. Let's give the bag a minute then I'll post. Once again the colours are great, the patches and inner pocket are kitschy, and I've just never found a bag before that suited me so well.
Thank you, sweetheart. Obviously your anxiety was a ruse so that when I recieved your MYB my amazement was dialed up to an eleven with surprise.
Best Swap Ever.
Best Partner Ever!

9  Re: Knit and Crochet blanket Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Diana dOr on: August 29, 2007 06:11:59 PM
I've recieved from TheCraftyCat & Amanda, respectively:

Both are so much more gorgeous in person and fabulously soft. The diamonds on CraftyCats seem reversable, subtle on one side and more obvious on the other. Amanda's is exactly like the picture she included! It's called Butterfly Garden, there are a dozen butterflies crocheted around the outside. (Did I mention there were laffy taffys included... for about 2 minutes)

Another picture of Ameythestlily's square, as well as one showing the fabulous texture...

The gorgeous yellow basketweave as well as a beautiful kind of shell pattern...

Group shot of all recieved squares...
