1  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Re: T-Shirt recons: kid pajamas and dresses (4 pics) on: June 10, 2011 07:33:39 PM
Thanks!  My mom always assured me that knits were terrible to sew, so I avoided them until recently.  There are so many cute knit recons on the site, I just had to try it myself.

I've been busy sewing clothing out of my husband and my castoff t-shirts.  I love getting more use out of our clothing, particularly the shirts that are worn or stained.  Because the clothes I make are small, I can work around the problem areas.  On to the pictures!

These are made from one large men's t-shirt and a couple of scraps from another shirt:

These are made from two medium men's t-shirts.  I have enough fabric remaining to make a color-blocked t-shirt:

I used the following tutorials to draft my patterns for the pajama pieces:

This dress is from an Om t-shirt that my inlaws brought me from India.  The shirt is adorable but was not my size, but I've held onto it for years (because it was a gift).  It's cool to be able to finally use it.  I winged this dress, no tutorial or pattern used.

I made this dress from a free pattern I found on a blog.  Sorry for the blurry picture, for some reason every picture of this dress is blurry.

Thanks for looking!
3  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Two dresses made from men's shirts (first post!) on: June 05, 2011 11:44:44 AM
Inspired by Cheytown's tutorial.  I have little experience making clothing, and I'm really excited about how these turned out.  I used two of my husband's "retired" shirts.

The pattern didn't photograph well; it's a black and tan plaid,.

The following dress is lined and finished with homemade bias tape; both firsts for me.

C/C welcome, and thanks for looking!

I've been waiting for the summer to finally try this tutorial.  I'm hooked; I can't wait to make more dresses!  I made some changes to the bodice and straps.  The pattern is a tan and black plaid that didn't photograph well.

I'm a sucker for flowers; the earrings are too cute!  The necklace is nice, as well.  The colors are wonderful.

I love it!  (Lurker) I love the look of the "usual" style of tree of life pendants, but this one seems so much cooler to me.
