1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Completed Projects / Some tiny lace top hats (thanks, Urban Threads!) on: June 11, 2011 05:47:23 PM

On the right is a hat done in white thread with a black lace band, vintage button, and pheasant feathers.

On the left is a hat done in metallic gold thread with a garnet & freshwater pearl band, gold-plated chain with real watch bits as charms and accents. This one took me WAAAAAY too much time.
2  COOKING / Dessert / Guinness Chocolate Cupcakes frosted with Bailey's whipped cream on: March 18, 2011 09:25:22 PM
I'm just gonna leave this here.

... Okay, they're not the prettiest things in the world, but they are damn tasty!

3  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / 5-Thread Overlock Recommendations on: December 04, 2010 11:50:30 AM
I'm considering investing in a 5-thread overlock machine, hoping to find one with a free arm, or that can do tubular pieces.

Any recommendations, anecdotes, etc., would be appreciated.
4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Discussion and Questions / When it all goes wrong... on: August 14, 2010 01:33:53 AM
Anyone who's been embroidering for awhile knows that sometimes... it just goes wrong. Your piece may be hooped impeccably, the tension set perfectly, a brand-new needle and a full bobbin, but sometimes... things just go wrong.

What do you do when that happens? Tear it all out and start again? Make a new one? What if you can't make a new one?
5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Completed Projects / Another mini lace top hat! on: August 04, 2010 12:28:07 AM

I sent the last one off as a wedding gift to a friend, and had stitched out a couple of the pieces for this one already... so I finished it. I think it turned out quite well, despite a couple of weird hiccups my machine had at the edges of one of the brim pieces and the edge of the crown. The flaws aren't very noticable, though.
6  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Queen size satin Leopard Print sheet set? on: July 11, 2010 03:33:48 PM
A few years ago, a friend of mine gave me a queen size set of satin leopard-print sheets. The fabric is absolutely gorgeous, but I have never been able to decide what to do with it.

Obviously, with two huge swaths of fabric (I'm guessing 70x90", as queen mattresses are 60x80") the sky's the limit... but I can't figure out what would look good in leopard print satin.

I've been leaning towards an early 60s style vintage Vogue type dress - fitted bodice, full skirt, that sort of thing... but has anyone else got another idea? I definitely want to do a dress (or two, since I've got so much), but I just can't decide on style.

I'm lucky enough to be able to wear practically everything, and I'm rather small, so unless the pattern requires more than 6 yards of fabric, I should have enough.
7  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Completed Projects / Tiny Lace Top Hat on: July 03, 2010 01:07:28 AM
I love UrbanThreads. Loved 'em long before I got an embroidery machine and downloaded all their freebies "just in case" I ever got an embroidery machine. Well, I did. And after working with it enough to be comfortable, I finally got the one thing at UT I really, REALLY wanted...

The lace top hat design.

I made this for a friend's wedding gift. It's finished off with red velvet ribbon, a fashion buckle, and two vintage rhinestone buttons.

I love it so much, I'll be making many more; the next two will be brown and purple!
8  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Denim patch pockets! on: June 16, 2010 06:02:11 PM
I have a whole stack of the patch pockets off some kids' jeans - about 50 pockets, total.

What in the world can I do with them?
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Jeans + Neckties = Awesome on: May 20, 2010 07:30:00 PM

I've had so many compliments on these jeans, I can't believe it. Already made a pair for my roomie, and one pair from black designer jeans with hot pink plaid. (They're pretty eye-catching.)
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Women's tailcoat pattern? on: March 05, 2010 11:58:32 AM
I am trying to get my hands on a women's tailcoat pattern (i.e. with darts) that I don't have to enlarge. Free is nice, but you often get what you pay for, and I want this thing to look good!

If you know of any, please post a link or information.

Thanks much!
