21  christmas bbq sauce in Recipes and Cooking Tips by LadyLeitzen on: November 24, 2010 08:46:01 PM
heya guys  Grin

i whipped up a spicy-sweet tomato-based bourbon-honey barbecue sauce as a gift for my guy friends for x-mas! the recipe is supposed to make six quarts, but i only ended up with 5.5... of course, tasting it and using it on the beefwe had for dinner that night probably didn't help, but, beware!

honey bourbon barbecue sauce (6 quarts)
8 cups (64 oz.) ketchup
4 cups (32 oz.) tomato paste*
2 cups (16 oz.) tomato sauce*
3 cups red wine vinegar
2 cups bourbon
2 cups molasses
2 cups honey or 4 cups brown sugar*
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
1/3 cups liquid smoke
4 tsp. salt
4 tsp. pepper
4 tsp. paprika
2 tsp. garlic powder
2 tsp. onion powder
2 tsp. chili powder
2 tsp. celery seed
1-2 tsp. cayenne (according to taste)
1 tsp. cinnamon

simmer in large pot for 30 minutes, or until alcohol has cooked off (you'll be able to taste the flavor, but not smell the alcohol). process quart jars and lids in boiling water for 10-15 minutes. remove from water and carefully fill, leaving 1" headspace. wipe rim with towel and screw on lids. process in hot water bath for 15 minutes. leave on counter to cool, store in cool dark place. WARNING: anytime you are canning be sure you are protected from scalds and burns!!!!

* if you are using brown sugar, flip the paste to sauce ratio: use 2 cups tomato paste and 4 cups tomato sauce

thanks for looking!

23  2nd piece of knitting. ever. in Knitting: Completed Projects by LadyLeitzen on: November 24, 2010 08:10:30 PM
well, "ever" for me! Roll Eyes Grin

my first project was a straight garter stitch scarflette, so i figured i'd try something a little different.

i did a basketweave pattern... i don't even think i can remember the exact stitch number n' stuff i used, but i do remember i used paton's soy wool stripes. the colors were enchanting, it softened and bloomed wonderfully in its bath of eucalan, and it blocked like a dream. only thing? very splitty. very very splitty.

onto pictures:

and the buttons, because they're just so cute.

24  bazinga in Needlework: Completed Projects by LadyLeitzen on: November 24, 2010 07:56:16 PM
hey all, i just finished my first cross stitch in, well, yeeeaaaars, and i LOVE the way it turned out soooo much i don't want to give it away as a christmas present, which is actually what it is.

behold, bazinga!

and here it is before i framed it...

i think i might have to do another one, but if i do, i'd change the "i" in bazinga to a lightning bolt (for the flash), then around the lizard and spock i'd do a yellow rose (for texas) on each side, then the outermost flowers i'd change to double helixes, or atoms or something.

let me know what you think and thanks for looking!

25  coffee cookies with cinnamon chips, yum.... in Dessert by LadyLeitzen on: November 21, 2010 04:17:16 PM
i made these as part of a holiday cookie swap with my mom and s.i.l. we made 10 different kinds today and stuck them in the freezer, then sometime next month we'll all get together again and make our cookie plates.

i wish i could get a better picture of these, they're such cute little yummies.

lets see...
cream together:
2 sticks butter (or margarine)
1 1/3 cups sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs

then mix in:
4 Tbsp. instant coffee
2 Tbsp. cocoa powder

then stir in:
2 1/4 cups flour
1 cup cinnamon chips

lightly grease your cookie sheet, drop by teaspoonful and bake at 350 for 8 minutes.
fabuloso. or... leave off the cocoa powder and use chocolate chips instead of cinnamon. also yum.

thanks for looking!

ha! i love Smmarrt's veggies. we both made eggplants, so it was kinda cool. and now i have a veggie collection going with my artia the artichoke!

i can take care of a few photos (alwaysinmyroom, i hope you don't mind. I'd love to see a picture of her in her new home!)

here's the starfish i sent to always... this is the one that had to be completely restarted after it met with total kitty destruction.

and the back

i may have to bow out next round, holiday crafting is absolutely CRAZY.

whoopeee! i got my second dotee in the mail!

she's a perfect match for my eggplant dotee (my first craftster post!) - i wished for kitties and veggies and so far, check and check!

i named her artia (like "r-sha") cuz i couldn't name her artie or archie...
from the back:

but you turn her around... and...

ta! she's even got the purple flower on top.

thank you!!!!

28  granny shawl, but i love it! in Crochet: Completed Projects by LadyLeitzen on: November 03, 2010 08:53:00 PM
with so much stress going on lately (three papers, a dotee-destroyer kitty, a test, a story due and on top of it all, major home shenanigans), i took up this simple, mind-numbing shawl and clung to it with a passion.

it's the floaty fall scarf from the sept/oct 2009 crochet today except i upped the yarn weight from thread to worsted. i ended up using one full skein and FOUR leftover balls of yarn from previous projects. i used the brown and the green completely and have less than ten meters left of the red and orange.

enough. picture.

thanks for looking!

amazing dotees this round! i got my member of the scrapps family yesterday from the lastkodama, and have immediately hung her out of kitty range (bad kitty! (for those of you who know my kitty horror story))

here she is!

i love her little embroidered face and she has really unique body construction!
this is my second dotee from thelastkodama, we were paired together in rnd. 8 and she sent me a lovely embroidered night/day dotee.

and fullmoon? love the hat... you'll see why when i finish up your dotee.
