131  nessa, the homicidal eggplant in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by LadyLeitzen on: October 11, 2009 09:33:33 AM
i think i jumped on the dotee-train a little late!

anyway, this is my first-ever stuffie, and first-ever dotee, though i do know how to sew and such.

first of all, let me say that Nessa is not the original eggplant dotee. smmarrt made one for a swap awhile back (if you'd like to see hers, i've posted the link here).

nessa was born of the fact that i think eggplants are darn cute, plus a book i just finished reading a few weeks ago called "alone in the kitchen with an eggplant." i said as much to my fiance, and he got a weird look and said, "sounds sinister." and before we knew it, we were riffing off each other creating a story about a murderous eggplant with her jaunty green-leaf cap, all in a british accent. so, yeah, inside joke.

anyway, pics!

she's completely hand-sewn, made of felt, beads, buttons, ribbon, and a sculpey knife.

here's her pet spider, Leroy, who never leaves her side (i HATE HATE HATE spiders, so it seemed an appropriate sidekick for a homicidal vegetable)

and here's a nice shot of her leafy cap.

i don't think i'm quite done with her yet, though. i'd like to add a little more embroidery down on the bottom, some more leaf detail to her cap... and i think dotee's should have something to look at on the back, so i have a "green" word bead that i'd like to incorporate into the phrase "with her jaunty green cap," but i got halfway through the word "jaunty" and tore it all out because i apparently need much work with my word embroidery skills!

anyway, comments and especially constructive criticism is most appreciated. one cannot improve without first knowing what needs work!
