21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Quilt Block Swap Round 4 Gallery on: August 07, 2013 05:54:27 PM
*sigh* it's been that kind of day.

That line should read nothing but squares and rectangles

I'm loving all the fabulous blocks and I sincerely covet that koi!   My almost five year old princess was very upset that it wasn't coming in the mail to her.

Happy crafting all,
Martha

Time for some catching up.  I had a reply almost finished about my numskullery in COMPLETELY missing the handy white line running down my bobbin plate to mark a 1/4 inch seam allowance when my tablet shut down on me.  Rather than take the time to turn it on, sign it, etc. I jumped right into more sewing - this time watching that handy white line.  Two Garden Path blocks later, sewn concurrently of course, they came out too small.  Thanks handy white line for being no help at all.  Then I tried the star block I already had cut out.  It was soooooo close!  How on Earth did I do better on the star than on the ones with nothing but squares and triangles!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?  Needless to say I was feeling quite dejected and gave up for the night.  Now that a couple of days have passed I'm ready to try again.  This time I'm going to try Carolmb's tip about the 1/16th diference.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one with size issues.  That is greatly helping me keep my sanity!

Wish me luck......

I now have two of 24 blocks completed, plus one Garden Fence block that came out a tad too small.

I treated myself to a new and nicer sewing machine this past winter and I'm having some trouble figuring out exactly how to get the right seams.  The Sweet Sixteen and Prom dresses I did were no problem.  Trying to get 1/4 inch seams - not so much.   Sad

Love the Ring of Fire strips and the greens in the Garden Fence block!

I didn't accomplish as much this weekend as I wanted.  I've cut the greens for the Garden Fence blocks and one set of Paintbox squares.  That one, especially, I want to test out before I cut any more.  I've also completely plotted out and cut strips for two of the Wonky Log Cabin blocks.  I know my OCD makes that process MUCH more complicated than it needs to be, but what can I say?  Fabrics and patterns selected for most of the other blocks in my two groups but no sewing yet.

I've gotta be honest... your Wee Scottie blocks are the ones worrying me the most donniesgirl  Undecided

I'm so glad I joined this swap - I'm having a blast!

I think number 9 could be Guinevere - the dress style and flower wreath fit.

Number 12 is a mystery.  I thought maybe an evil queen until I saw in your later photo that there is a seperate strip for villians.

SOMEHOW I managed to stay up until 5 am picking fabrics and designs!  The end result:  four partners all set and the other four in progress.  The bulk of my fabric is in a different house, so today I'm headed over there to keep playing.   Wink

Since I'm a newbie to this swap I want to clarify; we post the photos of the blocks we make before our partners have received?

Many thanks,
Martha

My gallery for groups 3 and 5!  Some of the photos aren't the best in terms of color - they look darker and have a warmer tone than in reality.

GROUP 3
Melladh - deep northern blues and greens

Pieced Star - my first attempt at paper piecing - it was an experience!

sloth003 - Paintbox
I love doing these!  Matching up the fabrics is so much fun  Cheesy

donniesgirl - Wee Scotty
I think I'm going to put a couple of these on the ends of a runner with the Christmas Scotty fabric you'll see farther down  Cheesy

EnginerdLisa - Garden Fence in greens

GROUP 5
carolmb - pinwheels and stars in brights

donniesgirl - raw edge circles in red and green
These were so much fun to match up and so quick and easy!  Extras for our wonderful organizer who also stepped into our group when we lost a member early on   Grin

How cool that I had a Christmas Scotty!

Uncut group and group after going into the blender  Wink

kbrison - stars in blue and yellow
These are MUCH brighter in real life!

alwaysinmyroom - Party Hats in red, white and blue
The first one of these I sewed came out small - I think I'm going to put it into a runner with the two more solid Modern Strings Carolmb sent me.

103 different fabrics plus solid white and only one duplicate because I goofed and used the same yellow in two of kbrison's blocks.

Once I got past my woeful feeling of inadequacy this was a blast!

I can't believe it's been over a year since I've done a swap!  After luking and considering for a week and a half, I've decided I just can't pass this one up  Cheesy.  Time to send in my questionnaire and get back into the swapping game!
