2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Smaug from The Hobbit embroidery on: April 05, 2012 05:34:09 AM
Made this embroidered pillow for Mothers Day this year. My Mum is an avid Tolkien fan and in her new house she hopes to create a little library for herself and I thought I'd give her a hand with decorating it.

Image: taken from the cover of the Hobbit
Text: "Never laugh at live dragons" in font 'kelt'. Free to download based off the official LoTR film font.

Materials: upcycled pillow, fabric and thread from my stash. Total cost: 0. But shush don't tell my Mum that Wink

3  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: A couple of quilts and a thank you on: February 01, 2012 03:21:44 PM
I love hand sewing, I know I shouldn't but I just prefer it to my sewing machine  Roll Eyes. I could get some much more done if I actually allowed machinery to do the grunt work!
4  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / A couple of quilts and a thank you on: February 01, 2012 03:41:16 AM
Firstly I need to thank you lovely people. A couple of years back when I was a crafter lurker (well more than now Tongue) I had a work mate fall pregnant and it was thanks to this forum and all the crazy amounts of inspiration that I decided to take on the project of my first quilt. She LOVED it and two years later I know baby still uses it.

First quilt: colours picked by work mate to match the babies room, fabric from local market. 100% hand sewn (ouch... the edging was done in one 12 hour sitting due to time constraints!) Pink fleece backing, for the little winter baby Smiley

Then last year my best friend announced her first pregnancy YAY! another quilt Cheesy

Second quilt: baby gender was unknown so I tried to keep it neutral. Fabric again from local market, all hand sewn. The weird thing with this one is my best friend lives across country from me so from me finding out about her pregnancy, to making the quilt to handing over I never saw her face to face. When she and her husband opened the quilt they looked more shocked then happy... not quite the reaction I expected. Unknown to me they had asked a family friend to make some items for the babies room (bumbers, nappy holder, curtains etc) out of fabric they had found on ebay... the same fabric I had chosen for the back of the quilt.

It was an amazing coincidence and not only were they in love with the quilt but the room fully matched!

Oh and the octopus was a seperate shop brought gift, ain't he cute? Cheesy

And barely into 2012 another friend is now pregnant - YAY! So time to bust out the stash and hunt through all your beautiful creations for inspiration ready to start creating quilt 3.

Thank you ladies and gentleman - I couldn't of done it without you <3

7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Shaun of the dead embroidery on: January 19, 2012 06:22:19 AM
Hey all, I thought I'd share my first completed embroidery inspired by artwork made by Scott Derby. This piece took me ages to complete as I spent most of my time debating to bin it for lack of 'perfection'. Tell me does that feeling ever go away or am I likely to nit pick forever?!

No complicated stitches used, split stitch, back stitch, seed etc. As I really need to get the basics down first.

Anyway hope you like it Smiley x

Thanks Almost Dawn it's also my favourite detail, I was finding the centre to blank :3.

Puredeadbrill - thanks Smiley It's quite simple it's a craft I was taught when I was quite young. I'd offer to show you but I'm certain theres videos out there that would do it far better and neter than I. I've got so many bad habits :X

10  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Magicka Sprites on: August 21, 2011 08:24:41 AM
Hey first post *nervous wave* thought I'd share my most recent cross stitch - magicka! It's for my two best friends who have gotten engaged. We met via WoW and have since played a whole host of games together, magicka being one of the most enjoyable Smiley

Took around 4 hours and needs to be framed before I see them next weekend at a gamers festival we're attending Smiley

Hope all this works! x
