21  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Rocket ship - quilted pillow on: January 29, 2012 11:55:15 AM
I wasn't sure this belongs in the sewing board or here, so if someone could set me right, that'd be great!

My fianc is currently very much in love with the quilty stuff that I make, and very often will stealthily acquire most of what I make. He's pretty sick and spends a lot of time lying down, so I suppose it's no real wonder why  Wink

I got "Doodlestitching" by Aimee Ray recently, which has lots of lovely embroidery designs. I chose the rocket ship because of our love of Futurama, we've have been known to sing this song at each other: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KosPy6KH3-o&feature=related (it's from "Bender's Game" in case anyone wants to know)

I stuffed it with fabric scraps, as I've been trying desperately to reduce my mountain of scraps. (Which is not going well, as it has grown instead of shrunk!)

 All C&C welcome Smiley

25  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / "Panda In New York" messenger bag on: December 26, 2011 07:29:17 AM
I started out with the intention of making a camera bag using a tutorial by fellow Craftster user lianatempera (this one to be specific http://creatinghappinessblog.blogspot.com/2010/02/padded-dslr-camera-bag-tutorial.html) but I got kinda lazy when I ran out of black velcro, so it's just a normal messenger bag.
I bought the kawaii fabric from eBay, I wish I had bought more!

Front pockets:

The first inner zipper pocket I've made that actually worked!

Artsy shot of the interior, showing an inner pocket, keyhook and zipper closure (ran out of normal zips, so I used an invisible one instead):

I'm really happy with how it turned out, although it still needs a strap as on Christmas eve, it caused my sewing machine to blow its fuse so it'll be a few days before I can truly finish it.

I hope you like it, any C&C is welcome!

27  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: 10 Ways to Economize your Sewing on: December 04, 2011 12:41:32 PM
I've been doing the thrift store shopping for years, it's one of my favourite ways to shop. Not only is it a challenge, but I'm also helping out various charities by doing so. Although, I found that getting the bus home from work instead of walking is cheaper because then I won't go into every single charity shop on the way home (there's LOADS on the route home!) Cheesy

This might sound odd, but it's something I've been doing for a while. I use 3v cards if I'm buying anything online (it's a Visa card, but instead of credit, you top up the card. I still can't trust myself to have a credit card) and there's usually money left over. If there's remaining cash, I go onto ebay and find something. You can get loads of ribbons, zippers, trinkets, lace etc. for next to nothing, and you might find some notions and whatnot that are cheaper online than in your local craftatorium.
I have a saved search that's free postage and packaging, in the category of crafts and includes whatever amount I have left over so I can go back to it. It's a fun little challenge too!
28  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Post about Scraps (I think) on: December 04, 2011 10:58:54 AM
I've been hoarding my scraps for a long time, so recently I decided to get ruthless and make a hexagon quilt out of them. Anything smaller than 3" gets tossed into a plastic bag, and hopefully in turn, that will get shredded into stuffing one day.
I probably have enough scraps to make several hexagon quilts though!

As promised, here's the Domo-kun tshirt!

I was doing the Domo-kun dance, hence my stupid expression  Grin

I received from hayleyhandmade, woo!

First up, the beautiful card with a note from Hayley:

Next up, we have LOADS of gorgeous cards, for birthdays, congratulations and Christmas (very tempted to keep these for myself!). You can't see them, but there's actually more cards than shown, but I have a limited photographing area.

A box filled with teeny tiny bags that have a chocolate in them (I love teeny tiny things!)

Oooh some handmade tea tree snowball soap! I'm a sucker for lovely smelling soaps and this smells like something out of my favourite shop Lush Grin

Sorry about the shoddy picture-taking in this one but two gorgeous jewellery boxes!

A new notebook, I adore the hearts!

And for this next piece, Hayley tells me that her sewing machine wouldn't play nice so she asked if I could sew it instead. I have an addiction to both sewing and Domo-kun so I'm totally on board with this! It's going to be Domo-kun on a tshirt and yes, I will post pictures when I finish it!

Thank you so much Hayley, I love it all! You're extremely talented Smiley

Update: Whoops, almost forgot about the truffles! Nyom!
