1  Topher Brink and Circuit-diagram butterflies (Dollhouse hoop) in Needlework: Completed Projects by kawoosh_girl on: December 26, 2011 10:07:26 AM
My sister and I just finished watching the first season of Joss Whedon's Dollhouse (now onto season 2!), and I wanted to practice my beginner embroidery skills doing up a Dollhouse-themed hoop.

The circuit diagram/butterfly design came from Urban Threads: http://www.urbanthreads.com/product_details?product_id=2341&category_id=57.

I would say it took my about 10 hours, with Christmas movies, since I'm a bit slow with the stitching (seed/back stitch and French knots). I enjoyed myself, though! The result, with a quarter placed for scale:

As promised, here are the items I made for fiorinda. I am so glad she liked themthis has been a great swap!

A few fabric covered buttons (some plain plaid, some cross-stitched):

Embroidered cards (these were fun to make!) (Marcus is special because he's fiorinda's favourite Smiley):

And the man himself!

Yesterday, I received from fiorinda...And it was fantastic! Smiley

First, a keychain which ensures I will never lose my keys in my purse again. Cheesy It has a bird ("for freedom") and a charm that reads "love", "because, as Marcus says, love will set you free." (Things in quotations are from fiorinda's letter.)

Second, this really lovely charm bracelet. In her letter, fiorinda explains that the snowflake and the butterfly are for winter and spring, based on my favourite lines from Winter Winds (see more below).
(Also with the words "hope" and "love", "because that's what Mumford and Sons is all about.")

My package also included this quilled snowflake ornament. In the photo, it is hanging from the doorknocker on my bedroom door. How does one even begin to make such things?!? I have no idea; it is a skill way beyond me, but fiorinda did a beautiful job and I am very impressed.

And finally, this bright and beautiful Kindle cover (which fits perfectly!) with my all-time favourite M&S lyrics. I love its vibrancy, the jazzy "HOPE" button, and I so admire the beautiful sewing she's done. I feel so inspired, and that's such a great feeling!

4  Nerd-love cross stitch hoops (Prince of Persia, Dinosaur Comics) in Needlework: Completed Projects by kawoosh_girl on: July 13, 2011 08:08:42 PM
I've recently realized that I LOVE cross stitch and so I've been practicing, having fun, and trying to get better.

I stitched these two as gifts for two different friends. Each is just basic cross stitch, but took me a week or so of evenings watching Battlestar Galactica and Bright Star to finish. While I've still go to put the finishing touches on their appearances, all the stitching is done. Both are quotes that the friends and I have shared...Fun times!  Smiley

This first one is a quote from the movie Prince of Persia (a, ahem, guilty pleasure). It's good life advice, don't you think? The pattern for the bird is adapted from one in the Reader's Digest Big Book of Cross Stitch Designs:

This second one is a quotation from a photo-essay-poem-thing by Joey Comeau (A Softer World) about Ryan North (Dinosaur Comics). If you want to read that, you can find it here: http://cargocollective.com/joeycomeau/1223104. The dinosaur pattern is from this website: http://www.dltk-kids.com/animals/mdinoxstitch.htm

5  Beaded Pearl Necklace a la Buffy the Vampire Slayer in Beads: Completed Projects by kawoosh_girl on: May 30, 2010 12:45:28 AM
I just recently fell in love with Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and I'm only halfway through season two, so I've got a long way to go). I was quite taken with the necklace worn by the character Drusilla, in the episode School Hard, and I decided to take a shot at replicating it for myself.

My version, using a mix of swarovski pearls (almond and red), glass pearls (white), and small white beads as spacers (imitating the sort-of "knots" you get between actual pearls in a typical strand):

The original (picture from http://www.screencap-paradise.com/):

6  "Chain of Command" Scarf (Firefly) in Knitting: Completed Projects by kawoosh_girl on: April 21, 2010 07:26:47 AM
I made this scarf for round 9 of the Firefly Swap. (Jayne: "Do you know what the chain of command is?...")

It's based on a pattern from Knitty (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter05/PATTmarleysghost.html), and is made up of multiple links knit in the round, using the magic loop method. The coins were attached with the loose ends before the relevant loop was "finished".

7  A Simon Tam....tam (Firefly hat!) in Knitting: Completed Projects by kawoosh_girl on: April 21, 2010 07:23:27 AM
For the Firefly Swap (Round 9), I made this version of the Jayne Cobb hat, based on the pattern for the "Tam Topper" that can be found here: http://www.kraemeryarns.com/patterns/.

I was pretty pleased - it is a bit large (made with a nice chunky yarn), but it fits over long/big hair, which is (in my view) nice. I think my partner liked it, so...yay!

Get ready to be dazzled, folks! This package from cherry_blossom55 just made my day week month!

First up, cute little note card with a greeting:

All the lovelies were to be found in one of Inara's clutches - the colours (some favourites) are so pretty:

First out came these little beauties (perfect, given that my measuring spoons are breaking - not to mention that these are way cooler and, of course, Firefly themed!) (Also, OMG it's the OATY BAR!):

Then, this cupcake-tastic hand-bound journal (wow!) [EDIT: there are stickers inside!!!!]

Zoe's necklace (I've been trying to figure out a way to make this, and cherry_blossom55 has saved me the trouble with this lovely jewellery):

Browncoat earrings:

And dinosaur stickers!

Thank you cherry_blossom55! I can assure you that these beautiful items will be used with love. Cheesy
