1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Infinity Dress Questions on: February 10, 2010 04:59:03 PM
Hi all! I'm a fairly new sewer (I've made a quilt, duvet cover, a few easy gathered skirts with knit waistbands, and some other random things!). I recently came across the infinity dress tutorial, ran out and bought some cheap fabric (cotton knit) and quickly made one up! LOVE IT.

I'm Maid of Honor in a wedding this fall, and am helping the bride pick out the maids' dresses. She actually really likes the infinity dress (which is hysterical, because out of the 5 million dresses she's had me try on, it's the only one she likes...). I really think I could make these very easily for the four of us.

My questions are:

1.) Would you recommend matte jersey, or will it roll? What other fabrics would work (which would be the best??)

2.) The tutorial I used didn't have any hems put in on the edges (which makes sense, since you'd see them). So...how do the edges get finished?

Thanks for any help!!!!
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Brother PC 420 on: February 04, 2010 06:00:25 PM
Does anyone have one? I'm ready to upgrade from my first machine. I'm esp. interested in decorative stitches, so this looks perfect...

The dress looks hot! Where did you find that fabric? It's great (and I love how it allowed you to eliminate the zipper!!)
4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Any stash management sites? on: December 06, 2009 07:27:32 AM
This sparked my interest, so I searched for iPhone apps - there's one called "fabric journal." I bought it to try it out - I'm new to sewing and have already amassed a closet full of fabric (I can't stop buying it!!). I've been looking for a way to carry scraps of what I have with me so I don't rebuy things I already have....(already done it once...)

This is so cute! Is it all fabric? (Is there cardstock or something on the back???) I love it!
8  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Beginner! on: October 21, 2009 05:10:41 PM
I'm the "old" beginner here, I see. I just taught myself to sew (at 31 years old!!!) last weekend. I bought a cheapie Brother machine from Walmart and it sews like a dream for a beginner! I've made 8 pillowcases and an apron - and am making a duvet cover this weekend. Then I'll tackle skirts! All from online tutorials (definitely check out the blog "Sew, Mama, Sew"!!).

I'm happy to see some other beginners on here as well!

Great idea - this will look excellent framed and on a wall!! I might make one for my sister who's decorating her living room in "Day of the Dead" motifs...

Your necklace inspired me to learn how to do yo yos - I bought fabric this weekend - and I am HOOKED! I'm working on my own necklace AND a quilt (we have looooong winters in Maine....).

Thanks for the inspiration!
