2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Doily Hoopla! on: April 11, 2012 11:49:47 PM
So, I made this piece for Nilmerg in the ongoing Hoopla swap rnd 5. She had requested "something with doilies" and after peeking at her pinterest, I got inspired and made this.

i did not make the doily myself...but my great grandmother did (i inherited a bunch that she had made)...so this piece is a family affair! I had a ton of fun making it...i didn't want to make anything too crazy detailed as i thought the doily in of itself was beautiful.

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / coaster swap?! aka mini mug rug? on: February 15, 2012 11:40:44 PM
i am thinking of organizing a coaster swap...
i realized earlier in the week that i really need coasters before my grandmas cedar chest (our coffee table) gets ruined... i am interested in doing regular sized coasters rather than the mug rugs...they seem too big to me...but hot damn they are pretty!

anyhow, i am wanting to know if there is interest. i would cap the swap off at a small number of swappers as it has been a very long time since i organized a swap! and am thinking that it would either be set up as:
a) send one partner a SET of coasters.
b) send each participant one coaster, so every participant rec's a coaster from every one else to complete the set....(if this set up is chosen i would probably cap the swap at 6-8 swappers, and choose a specific size and/or shape so they stacked well?)

any thoughts? preferences...i know i would like to receive (and make) alot of different ones...but i would like to hear from those who might be interested in joining this swap.
5  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Call for Crafty Donations for Charity Auction ....Please Help! on: January 18, 2010 03:18:46 PM
so. the midwifery program that i am enrolled in is called Ancient Art Midwifery Institute. the founder and director Carla Hartley is amazing. when i went to enroll she knew that financially i was not able to pay for the whole of tuition. she lowered my tuition for me by half. she also gave me a discount off the Trust Birth conference that she is holding in march....she is the most generous person i have ever encountered. she believes in me and midwifery so strongly that i cant help to see what i can do to help. She has helped empower women all over the world with her intense dedication to birth, babies and women.

right now, her husband, Ray, is dying of cancer. she is very in debt because he is unable to work and because she has almost entirely financed this huge conference herself....she has done so because she believes so strongly in the trust birth philosophy and in all her students.

i really want to help. so, i have offered my volunteering time IF i make it to the conference. which is feeling impossible.

but i feel like i can help from afar...... i have this sculpture i made a few years back...a ceramic beautiful pregnant torso sculpture that is just sitting in my living room. i want to find a way to auction it and another smaller sculpture off to see if i can raise funds to give to carla for the conference and/or her personal needs. (see below!)

so, what i am asking you gals for is perhaps crafted donations that i could also auction off. ...can be anything....it would be nice if it was birth/pregnancy/woman/midwifery related...vaginas are good! babies. whatever! i would so appreciate any help!!

also, input about how to go about doing an auction through my midwifery blog would be cool.

i do need to do this with a quickness...i could either have you send the item(s) to me and then i could mail them out to the highest bidder...or you could send me photos of the item, i could auction it and then have you send it directly to the highest bidder....either way.

thank you so much if you are able to help.
i hope i can do this!!! i really want to help her.
6  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Pirate Monkey: Stripey pants and hat! on: April 08, 2009 10:28:21 PM
so, i made this set for a swap recently for my partner's nephew. while i was making his set i decided my monkey had to have a set for himself. i used an old hand me down pattern that came from my grandma for the pants. i free handed the hat, but had seen some like it out on the internets! i think its a darn cute lil set if i do say so myself! the material was some old stretch jersey knit type material that i inherited from my grandma! after one wash its so soft and cozy!

heres the monkey modeling:

i made another pair of pants for him yesterday as well. this pattern is truly simple. takes about 30 minutes total (thanks to my serger!)....anyhow, i hope yall enjoyed!
7  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Longies for Speck! on: February 19, 2009 04:43:02 PM

8  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Speck's First Shoes! on: March 17, 2008 12:11:01 AM
so, i got a boost of energy this evening and had a hankerin' to sew some baby shoes for my baby to be....i searched the internets for a pattern and this is the one i ended up using....

i used leather and some cute owlie fabric i had in my stash...i think they turned out well!
i might have to redo the elastic to make it more elasticy...so they will stay up on Speck's footsies!
i think that i will also buy some leather lacing and add it to the all leather shoes so that they look like sheepskin slippers...like papa has!

anyhow, heres a pic!

i love them!
thanks for lookin!
