1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: new male knitter =) on: November 29, 2008 07:46:37 PM

I can feel your pain.  I'm a guy who knits (although I'm better at crochet) and I get teased about it all the time.  I work in an office and all the guys there tease me.  I get looks from people at the craft stores, because here is this guy with tattoos getting excited over yarn sales and new cool magazines.  My wife loves it though.  All of our friends call me the male Martha Stewart, and I don't know if that is a good thing or not.  Smiley

Keep it up though!  It's fun stuff.

I'm in the Detroit area and checked online and all the stores local to me (Taylor, Dearborn, and Southgate) said that they were all on order according to the website.  I told the wife that it isn't even worth going, but we were shopping, so we hit up the Borders in Southland (Taylor).  We looked and looked and nothing.  I even checked the computer and it said it was on order and would be in the store in 3-5 days.  Then, as we were walking out, there was a guy standing behind one of the counters with a cart that had a bunch of different books on it.  Well I spot the Happy Hooker a mile away and my wife reaches over the counter and asks if she can take it and the guy obviously could have cared less.  So we snatched that up and booked home to start some new projects.  It was the ONLY copy that I saw on that cart too.  I don't know if they have any more, but it's always a good idea to look around, even if the computers and workers tell you NO.   Wink

Well off to make something fun.

Good luck to everyone in their search for the book!

4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: Super Hero Craft-a-long on: November 29, 2005 11:53:16 AM
I picked up a few quarters of Spiderman fabric, but I can't really think of anything I can sew with it that I'd use.... It's not like my wife would get a kick out of a Spiderman purse, and I sure as hell wouldn't carry one around... I get teased enough just buying the fabric.   Grin

I'm all for it!  Then again, I'm a guy who crafts, so any excuse to do something boyish and crafty at the same time is exciting.   Grin

Anyone see the new Knit1 mag?  There was a little blurb on someone who knits full superhero costumes.... not that I'd be trying that anytime soon.  LOL.

That is awesome!  Maybe I'll attempt something like that if I can ever get through the Skully sweater in SNB.

BTW I also got to see Glenn with Doyle about a month back.  It was awesome!

8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: TUTORIAL: SUPER CUTE WALLET! on: March 25, 2005 04:49:05 PM
And the Oscar for best performance goes to....  Stitchedprincess!!   Grin

Thanks!  Tomorrow I'm starting a purse for her... I just wish I could come up with something that I could sew for myself, but I don't know too many guys who sew (or crochet, knit, etc) to get any ideas from.

Ah, it's fun anyway.   Cheesy

So I know it's been a while since anyone has posted on this thread, but I just got around to giving this a shot.  This is only my second "real" sweing project, and only the third thing I've ever sewed in my life... it shows, but I like it anyway.  My wife will be geeked about it.   Smiley  Here goes... this is also the first project I've ever posted on here.  Smiley

So yea, there are a few flaws, but I think it came out pretty good anyway...

Thanks for looking, and thanks to the original poster for putting up this tutorial, I appreciate it!

10  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Why not GoDaddy for hosting? on: January 07, 2005 07:00:18 AM
I know a few years ago that the fine print at godaddy said that if you register a domain with them, technically THEY own the rights to your domain name.  Not that it's a huge deal, but for anyone who's worried about the big brother aspect, it's a deterrment.  Like I said though, that was a few years ago.  I host with cheapwebhost.us.  They are pretty cool and have a lot of useful tools, but they seem to be getting more expensive year by year.

Good luck!
