2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Holy Shift, Batman! It's a Wallet! on: April 11, 2010 10:11:25 PM
So I was inspired by graverobbergirl's Star Trek Wallet (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=176750.0), and I decided that it was time to retire my old duct tape wallet and try to make a new one! I had this random Japanese Batman promotional comicbook, so I decided to use it as the base of my new wallet.

I lined it with red silk, sewed in pockets for credit cards and what not, used a strip of velcro to keep it closed, and then covered the whole thing in packing tape so that it would be durable. It's entirely held together by hand-stitching, and I'm proud to say I've been using it for four months and it's held up surprisingly well!

Here are some pics:

Enjoy! Questions/Comments/Criticisms welcome Smiley

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Animal hats! Unicorn, Giraffe, and Cal Bear (pic heavy) on: March 15, 2010 09:32:15 AM
I haven't made bear hats for anyone besides my boyfriend and me, so yeah, that was me!  That was probably Friday, on the 9?

Yeah- it was the 9! Down by San Pablo. How funny! Cheesy

Wow, I love the hats!
And this is sort of weird, but I think I saw a guy and a girl wearing hats like your Cal Bear hats on the bus in Berkeley. I remember thinking it was super cute! What a coincidence if it was you! Cheesy
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Magazine Clutch on: August 26, 2009 07:14:20 PM
"awesome! so did you just weave the magazine pages 1-ply and then cover the whole thing in packing tape?"

-I actually folded the pages into strips (so no cutting involved) and then weaved. But yeah, lotsa packing tape was involved Cheesy

"OOOO!  Shocked That is so pretty! I've been wanting to make these for a while... I think I may have to try your design (if that is alright!)"

-Thanks! And please feel free to try it out! Smiley
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / S.P.E.W. Hat :D on: August 22, 2009 09:45:42 PM
So I was outside all week for a camp that I work at, and it was soooo cold. Lucky me, I was working at a sewing camp, so I decided to make a hat out of an old skirt. The waistband of the skirt became the hat band, and I embroidered S.P.E.W. (from harry potter) on the side Smiley

So I saw this really cool purse made of magazines the other day, and I decided that I would like to try something like it. However, I wanted a shape that could hold more stuff, so I decided to make a clutch that would have folded side panels. One magazine, half a roll of packing tape, and hours later, this is the final product Smiley
