3111  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Fiber Friday March 4 2011! on: March 05, 2011 12:26:45 PM
Jets to July, I love that purple bump. And your hat came out so cute! I found the number for the lady who is in charge of the Fiber Guild here, which consists of 5 people, but have yet to call her. Maybe I should do that today.

Muppy, I love your blue! I know what you mean about the sparkles not showing up in pictures, though, it really is hard to get good shots of sparkle. My yarn this week is supposedly really sparkly too but you can't tell in the photo.

There are so many yarns this week! I am so happy. Thank you all for feeding my need. I am working on a parody of a song that gets stuck in my head every time I think of my fiber addiction. Hopefully it will be done by next Friday?

K_cat: I love your take on color and pain. Color does help! I realized when I had bronchitis a few weeks ago that when I started coloring  in my kids' coloring books I felt so much better. Just adding color! Just crayons!

I've been working on a second yarn without finishing the first. One on the drop spindle and one on the wheel... Hopefully one will be done today, and the other tomorrow!

As for prizes, the plan is:

four progress (not just compliments, though, we like compliments, too) posts by March 15, and you're entered into a drawing - for fiber!
four progress posts between March 16 and March 31, and you're entered into a drawing - for fiber!

I'm thinking about finishing the other 2 ounces of my February Diamond club on my spindle, but I'm not sure yet. I'm also thinking about getting the book Respect the Spindle but again, I'm not sure yet. Ooh! It's march! In about 2 weeks I'll be getting another 8 ounces of fiber! I am so excited! I think the Spinning the Seasons turns to Spring this month!

Do the progress posts have to have pictures? I am planning on posting pictures each Friday of my growing mountain of clean fiber, just because I'm used to photographing then for FF, ya know? I don't have anything really exciting other than that, and I figured that's how I would quantify how I am doing on my goal, since my only real "stash" is uncombed fleece. I feel like I would be redundant just popping in, "Yup, got my 3 slivers done today" 8 times this month, but of course I already feel redundant just planning on posting my growing clean fiber mountain.

I'm also thinking of maybe getting a book on dyeing, either the Teach Yourself Visually or... that other one I was looking at on Amazon... Hand Dyeing Yarn and Fleece, how did I forget that? Anyway, I'm thining of getting one of those so maybe if I get my fleece all combed this month I can start in making it colorful before i spin it?! I need to start busting ass on this combing thing, then. It's just so time consuming! I am, however, already ahead of the curve for today. My daily goal is 3 slivers but I have already done 2 today and if my husband decides to play WoW tonight then I might get another 2 or 3 done. Woot! (<---Does that count as a progress post?!)

I don't have anything this week.  I'm trying to learn a new craft, locker hooking and have started making a bathmat out of my son's old receiving blankets.  That's gonna take a long time.  I also have embroidery in the works.  I just can't seem to stick with one craft for very long -- gotta jump around and mix them all in.
I bet handspun yarn would add some fun texture to locker hooking! I have the stuff for it, the hook is shoved in with my crochet hooks, but I haven't done it in a while. I should. Maybe for... damn, I just sent that swap off and I'm not allowed to sign up for any more until I'm done with my Hooplas!

My goal this month is to get the fleece that I have had in my garage for 9 months combed and ready to spin, though I don't think I will spin any of it. I just want it clean and ready.
Here is what I've accomplished of this so far:

I don''t know ounces or anything, all I know is I ran the combs 9 times, making 9 little "nests." I am excited for getting this fleece done with and getting the new ones in May because I have learned so much and want to do the next ones better, ie have less noils to remove!

Yay! Orange!
Oddacity: That yarn is very even. I love it! I love the finished product too. You posting it in the Spun to Finished thread?
Astor: I have cards because I thought that's what I needed to clean my wool but then I found about combs and haven't used my cards since! Maybe When I'm done with my fleece I will try to do some mixing? Your rolags aren't that bad, but that may just be the photo Wink They look like they will be fun to spin!
I come bearing... black and pink and yellow. Wink
This is my February Diamond Club from knit.etsy.com, well, 1/2 of it. I really wanted to ply it with some black, but I don't have any solid black roving or any really black thread. I mean, I have some navy blue that passes as black but not enough for this plying venture. So I used yellow, against my better judgment. Meh, I have more, I can spin/ply it with black another time.

And I'm going to post this in the CAL as my progress so far this month but I figured I would show everyone here too because I know you're not all in the CAL, for some reason.

My hoarding issue lately is spinning yarn. I have been spinning about a year now and have officially used 1 skein of my own personal handspun. It's so hard to use it, I put so much effort into it. How can I just make something with it?

I know what I'm going to do! Now I just need to get finished with my swirlie swap so I can start on this one! Hm, what size hoops should I use?
