2511  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: Succulent Tongue on: November 14, 2011 11:01:16 AM
I like this. At first I was thinking "that looks like a cyclops. It can't be a cyclops! What is it?" But I was right. Very witty of you. I like YOU.

Observation, not complaint:
It amuses me how something that can completely overrun everything else in one's life and be that person's ultimate passion and life spark (even for just 2 days) can get only 1 comment from another member on this amazing community, but then something that is simple and posted more just for the sake of making a post (like the cake I decorated for Cake Decorating Day) can get a whole conversation going with multiple people.

Really, this is an observation. I don't make things for recognition. This piece is all for ME. I hung it in my room and it is the first thing I focus each morning and the last thing I focus on each night. It still astounds me that I MADE THAT! Maybe it's not that great but like I said it amuses and amazes me.

BAHAHAHAHA! I have to pin this under "nerdery" which is basically my pin board for what I would want someone to make my husband. You are awesome.
2514  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Christmas/Winter Ninni Swap; send by 12/7 on: November 14, 2011 09:10:48 AM
OK, I need to work my butt of this week on my REAL C-mas presents and the stocking swap, not to mention Russ' b-day party Saturday ACK! I hope to get started on this next week but it might have to hold off until after Turkey. I'll send on time, but probably  not early.  Poop. Good thing this will be a fast swap to make. I think the hardest part will be research and finding the mats.
2515  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Fiber Friday November 11th 2011 on: November 13, 2011 06:10:22 PM
Wow! That is so great! Weaving is another craft I admire. That is going to be one bright, cheery scarf. I am jealous of those who get to behold it's goodness in person when you get it done.

So Belladune, you planning on sharing? Wink I love the first rovings, and I know you don't like the coloring in the last ones but I sure think they would look nice spun worsted. Very fluffy but manly at the same time, you know?

Yes, Peach, keep it up! Join us!

I have been spinning a little but have no finished product to show for it. I have been mostly using some of my spins. One was for a swap that I haven't sent out yet and the other was supposed to be for that same swap but the colors I decided needed to be for a little girl instead of a grown lady so I frogged it and crocheted the same pattern but in the toddler size. I LOVE using handspun! Why was I trying to sell this stuff? I love it! It is as nice to use as it is to spin. Maybe I'll get some pics up in the Spun to Finished thread soon.
2517  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: First time spinning - Question on: November 13, 2011 12:12:45 PM
Best way to get the extra twist out is to ply it with something, even itself. Yes, setting the twist can remove some of the extra, especially if you weigh it really good, but best bet is to unspin it by plying it.
2518  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: MYB Round 15 Gallery on: November 13, 2011 11:14:25 AM
Yes! Strawberry, Very Berry, and Pumpkin. I think they just came out with a Mocha, too, but I'm not sure. Some rep I am, eh? The lemon lime is the best, though. I also like their Lemon Bars mix. Soooooo gooooooooood!

Dang, I knew the socks would be big. It's hard to make socks without a foot the right size for reference, though. And like I said, first time crocheting socks. Maybe I should have made a pair for myself before I tried for another, but whatever. As long as they are comfy and get use. If they don't get used then it was pointless to make them. Please use them! Wink
2519  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Christmas Stocking Swap Rd. 7 (signups Sept. 12-Oct 1.; sendouts Dec. 1) on: November 12, 2011 02:05:38 PM
I always forget how much I like working with Hand-spun yarn. I made a small today for PP, first time I've used this technique. Then I started making a hat but decided the colors would work much better for a very small girl rather than a very grown woman so I frogged 1/2 of it and finished it in the Toddlers' size for my Alice. While it's one less idea I have for PP, it's also one less idea I need for my 2 year old!
I don't think this will be too hard to finish from where I am. While I haven't made too much, I have bought a whole lot and have lots more ideas. The stocking will be the hardest. And who knows, maybe I have more made and less bought that I think. I have a tendency to just toss things in the designated "stocking swap" bag. Maybe I should go through it. Maybe I should make these _____ first and then go through it. Yeah, that's the plan.
2520  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Post about Scraps (I think) on: November 12, 2011 12:40:58 PM
UPDATE: My bag of super small scraps was listed on Free Cycle and holy crap, within 2 hours of it being posted I had probably 5 or 6 requests for it! I was amazed.

I've also been getting rid of some of the fabric in swaps and stuff (and real projects, what a concept!) so I have a lot less. Like, that clear plastic tote on there is only 1/2 full of fabric now. Yay!

I've found a few really great tutes for small scraps of fabric lately. This pinecone ball tutorial actually requires a lot of 2" squares, but I've started making them and I think they would be great scrappy. And this Tangram-esque Squares tute is great too. I've made one set for my nephews using mostly solids and I plan on making another for my kids using patterned fabrics. I also plan on making matching bags for each set. Also, I haven't made these yet but I am so making tonnes of these little birds for my huge tree when it gets naked this year.

And on another stash related note, though it's not fabric, 1/2 of the shelf in my closet is full up to the ceiling with candle making stuff that my sister wanted me to have and I thought i would use but never did and want to get rid of so another sister said Hells Yeah she'll take it! We are taking it down with us for T-day and she will most likely make Christmas presents with it all. I'm so happy it will get used!
