2351  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / Re: Olivian Mermaid on: February 05, 2012 07:49:10 PM
Thanks for all of your encouragement! C-ster is the best! C-sters are the best!

I really want to be more open and un-prudish with my kids but Russ gets giddy when he sees my cleavage so... And we really don't have the wall space for it! Even if there was a "kid free" zone. In a house this small, though, that's really hard. And it's not really my style anyway. I love it, but it isn't something I would actually buy somewhere or hang in my house. The bikini idea is really cute, though. Cheesy

CrazyGlassEye, I'm pretty sure it's a copyrighted image so yeah, legally I couldn't sell it unless I got specific permission from the copyright holder, which might be cool to have a convo with Olivia herself (since I assume she is the holder) and show her the work, but I really wouldn't feel right selling it.

Trip to NZ does sound really fun, though...
2352  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Re: Silhouette Hoop on: February 05, 2012 05:07:52 PM
Thanks everyone!
Becca, I'm glad you enjoy it so much as to post here. That's always a good sign.
Cassiem, I didn't needle it in the hoop. If the foam had been the same size and shape as the hoop I may have but that's silly. Where would I get a 12" round piece of foam? I did have it pinned to the foam and the pins held it tighter than I was expecting. I was expecting it to not work well with that fabric because of the loose weave but, as expected, I learned something new about needle felting.

Thanks you guys!
Sue: Another issue with hanging it is I just dont know where to hang it. Not much wall space.

I just realized I didn't put a mature image tag on it but I don't know how! The button doesn't work for me. Sad I am so confused. Curse you HTML!

I was in a pinup swap a while ago and was officially introduced to the work of Olivia. I fell in love with this piece and it may be the only image that has ever inspired me to make 2 things from it. The other thing is still a WIP, but this one just took one day. I've had the stuff long enough, though, so it may as well have taken a year and a half. This was part of my Crafting ADD that overtook me when my husband was out of town last weekend.

the mirror with frame is about 18"x24" so the image is about 20 inches long. Used the contact paper method for etching. I was really worried about her face and hands but I think they came out OK.

My question: what to do with it? Can't hang it with a growing 5yo boy in the house. Can't mail it. Well, I guess I could but I would be super worried about my packaging job and I would need a really bug box and who would I mail it to? Can't sell it, legally. Don't know anyone I would be able to gift it to... What to do? I really don't want her to just spend her existence crammed between my dresser and the wall, ya know?
2355  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Silhouette Hoop on: February 04, 2012 08:13:26 PM
So for the latest Hoopla round we chose silhouettes as the theme and I could not get away from the idea of doing one needle felted. I LOVE how it came out. This may be the first time I have posted something I made for a swap. I really want to do the other hoop I signed up for as a needle felting as well but I feel like I would be cheating my other partner. So torn! When I was done I put some fabric glue on the back just because I'm terrified of it coming undone. I know you more experienced Felters say it's not necessary but I am paranoid so there you.

The pattern was a free paper cutting pattern from Cindy Ferguson. Here she is:

And a close up:

And just for fun, this is how the foam pad looked after I finished her:

I really enjoy this craft! Q,C&C welcome!

Nik, I love seeing people try new things. This is no exception, beautiful! How fun for you.

MLF, What kind of wool is all of this?  It is all lovely. What are you going to do with it? Will we be seeing anything on the FO post?

Hurrah! My hoop was the first up in the gallery! And you all liked it, you really liked it. I'm so happy. It was a lot of fun to make.

You got another J name over here and I'm loving OGDs hooping, as always.

I like how the first 2 hoops we got one good example of each--negative space and silhouette.

I got claimed! That's so exciting! Now I have even more motivation to finish these other things and get going on this one.

I know this joke has probably already been made somewhere but I just thought of it last night so I think it's funny:

We're a bunch of pinheads! AHAHAHA!

I made one for a swap! I thought you might like to know.

Those look like they would be very easy to make. It's no wonder they were so well loved! I bet I could make up a pattern for that if I wanted... If it wasn't already in the 70sF here. Maybe next year?

What does you gaming group play?
