11  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / knitting across mexico on: April 06, 2006 11:05:41 AM

12  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / what does this mean, exactly? lace socks from interweave on: March 15, 2006 01:27:30 PM
hello, i am embarking on a very special journey. one which combines my first time knitting in the round with dpn's , knitting lace, and knitting socks! i was totally unafraid, and conquered the first inch. but now the patter calls for this:
yo, sl 1,k2tog, psso, yo

i take this to mean: yo=yarn in front as if to purl, slip one purlwise, knit 2 together, and then pass slipped stitch over, then yarn over in back as if to knit.

i feel this is wrong. mostly because it is not producing the nice lace the pattern shows.
what does it really mean?

the pattern is simply  lovely lace socs from the recent interweave.

i know this is very brave of me, so thanks for all your help!

14  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / everybody needs a hug sometimes....NOW WITH "PATTERN" a bit down the page on: March 10, 2006 11:59:09 AM
hello ladies and gents, i present you with.... A KNITTED HUG!
I saw a lady in one of my classes wearing something similiar, and I was so jealous I knit ti up myself. I changed it to have kimono style shorter sleeves, and to be a wee bit looser all around. Perfect for changing climates, and bonus it can work as a scarf too! Wonderful for travel!
Knit flat on size 9mm needles in rainbow mohair. Yay!!!!

and to maybe see the colours better:

please let me know what you think.
15  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / cabled hat on: February 14, 2006 10:08:51 AM
i knit this hat up real quick using manos del uraguay (i'm in love with this yarn). i used half a skein that i had leftover from another project. but would make it bigger next time! also, this was knit on size 51/2mm straight needles.
it was my first cable prject and my own "pattern" if anybody wants it, let me know.

these arn't the best photos, but whatever.

16  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / handmade, hand dyed! LAURLALA DONT LOOK!!!! on: February 14, 2006 09:59:47 AM
hey, i'm not sure where to post this. this is my first attemot at a bag, but i'm pretty happy with it. i used the hoboesque tutorial as inspiration. the bag is unlined (i would have changed this, but was unsure how to do this post putting in the zipper)
then i kettle dyed the finished bag bright yellow.
and then i embroidered this drawing i made of a photo i took at a carnivale themed party.
and then i sent it to LAURLALA for the carnivale/sideshow swap.
hope she likes it!

and a close up! btw, it is very hard to embroider through a double layer of this fabric!

17  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / advice needed, please (especially directed to people in Oaxaca, Mexico) on: February 01, 2006 12:14:14 PM
Last year, while travelling in Mexico, I visited the MARO (Mujeres Artisanas de las Regiones de Oaxaca) Store in Oaxaca. I was very impressed with the organization from a crafty perspective, a feminist perspective and a cultural perspective.
When I returned home, I tried to find their web site to show friends and I couldn't find one. I read online (http://aidtoartisans.org/what/grants_recent.html) that they had just recieved some money to create a web site, and was very excited.
I'd like to help this group out in any way I can, and since I have web design experince I thought this might be a good place to start.
Does anyone know a good way to go about this? I would of course be volunteering, but I've never done something like this before.
18  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / my first pieces (and my first time posting photos!) on: January 13, 2006 11:06:45 AM
hey, these are my first pieces. they were commisioned for a show.
technically i think they arn't that good, but nobody there will be looking at my stitches.
the idea is the difference between disposable and permanent identity and the images are of polaroids i took at a halloween party.

also, the image may be too dark. on my laptop its fine. on this computer its super dark. we will see.
19  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / unsewing? on: December 29, 2005 11:04:01 AM
made a big mistake and i dont have a seem ripper. any tips to make the unsewing go faster?
20  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / uh-oh. i'm in trouble. on: December 29, 2005 11:03:01 AM
okay, so i tried to make the to-dye-for sweater from snb. but i subbed the mohair for angora (a gift) and the knitting lady at the store insisted that this would be fine and i should just follow the pattern as if i was using the right yarn.
and now i have a belly top. any suggestions. would blocking it help. can you safely block angora? i find just looking at it makes it felt!
