11  Re: 2009 Holiday Handmade Crusade :: (August Theme Page 1) in Craftalongs by prttynpnk on: August 17, 2009 08:52:09 AM
Here's my favorite work in progress~

The recycled magazine bowl!

I got the idea for this from an Earth Day event at my local library. The librarian showed us how to make a bunch of stuff using recycled magazines and a few other things. I've been working on this off and on since April. I have a huge stack of magazines to use. I plan on working on this as close to Christmas as possible, b/c I want this bowl to be huge! Right now it's flat, b/c you don't shape it and modgepodge it until it is the size you want. I'm making this for my sister. She's into everything green and the environment. Grin

It measures 10 1/2 inches across so far.
Some thumbnails of the magazine pages torn out and folded.

Close-up of the side, this shows that I staple the pages together.

I've used three full magazines so far and I'm working on my fourth.

12  Stuffie Bunny w/jingle bell ears in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by prttynpnk on: August 09, 2009 06:33:54 PM
This is my first attempt at a stuffed animal. I am giving her to my boyfriend's neice for her first birthday in a few weeks.

I made up the pattern and everything while I went along. I had the fabric left over from another project. It's a purple fleece. I drew a freehand outline of a bunny on it and cut out two. I then embroidered a little pink face to the front half and sewed jingle bells to the inside of the ears (since this was going to someone so young I thought it'd be safe to put the bells on this inside so they are enclosed and don't pose a chocking hazard). I sewed the halfs together and stuffed her. When you shake her the bells jingle!

Here's some pics:

And a close up of her face:

Thank you for looking. I'm so proud of my first stuffie and I wanted to share her.

This doesn't follow the theme, but I just finished a scarf for Christmas. I used a red yarn and a grey yarn held together to knit this. The two yarns are two different textures. It is super loooooong! Here are some pics:

^This pic is truer to color.

I have my puzzles!  I didn't want to attempt 1,ooo pieces and I liked those puzzles too much. Anyway, I'm so excited b/c my mom gave me some puzzles that she had stored away that she wasn't going to use anymore (she's a teacher). And she also gave my a box of scrapbook paper, it's a paper-a-day calender from 2007. Here's some pics:

This is the scrapbook paper.

This is the before shot of the round 18in. puzzle, with my helper kitty Casper.

The pieces are pretty big and oddly shaped. There are 18 pieces.

The before pic of the normal shaped square puzzle.

This one has 9 thick pieces.
