41  Re: Shrinky-dink Pet Tags in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by spurtiic on: April 22, 2006 12:10:09 PM
I know this is a waaay old topic but b/c I saw it I kept it in mind all these months.  I finally got a new doggy a couple of days ago who doesn't have any tags of her own  -- and seeing how I dubbed her Turbo Spaz (she's so hyper) I was worried she'd get off of her leash one day and someone would find her.  It prompted me to make her a couple of tags to stick on her.  Sorry the pic is such poop.  I just took a fast shot with my webcam so you all could see it!
Shrinky Dink charms are so fun!

Tah dah!

Here's the first cuff which made me gasp when I saw it...
(my partner really paid attention to my love of deaf culture. aww thank you!!!)

It is supposed to read (fingerspelled) "I Knit Therefore I am"
Except it really reads "I 8nit t8erefore I am."  But no matter... I'm wearin' it anyway.  I love it! It's adorable!

And the second one (I got two! Yay) is a pin cushion!  You have no idea how badly I needed one.  I kept sticking my finger the other day on needles that just lay around  Embarrassed  Thank you so much! I love 'em both!

(I tried to post last night but Craftster was busy having a conniption.

Anyway...here's what I had copy/pasted and saved til it was back up and running!):

My partner received! Yay.  And the best part is I don't think she cried when she opened the package.
She asked me to post so here goes:

And I felt my cuff skills were lacking (weak sauce), so I threw in a pair of earrings in her (hopefully) favorite colors.  Unfortunately her ears aren't pierced but she may be getting them done.  W00t.

44  Re: CD Necklace in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by spurtiic on: April 17, 2006 02:33:46 PM
Here's another one I made!
Well, I usually only get about 4 good pieces from 1 cd... but they're so flipping cheap it doesn't matter.
Anyway, this one is a bit smaller and I sanded the edges round, sealed the back with mod podge and acrylic clear spray then silver paint then more acrylic sealer.  Then I glued a sterling silver bail on it and strung it on a sterling silver necklace.  Everytime I've worn this anyplace I get tons of compliments.... almost everyone that talks to me says it's gorgeous.
Thanks again for the idea!

45  Re: Decorated cross swap in The Swap Gallery by spurtiic on: April 17, 2006 10:54:47 AM
I received!
ZOMG! I can't tell you how cool this cross is! I got the pkg from the postman about 10 minutes ago and I ran outside to take pictures!  The pics do it no justice.  Seriously...
It looks like the aluminum cans from energy drinks cut and nailed to the cross with nails all over the place and "Passion" in tin nailed on the right side.  It's so bright, it's so colorful...it's definitely the coolest cross ever.
Thanks Beautifulloser!  Kiss  Kiss  Kiss

PS- Thanks for the warning about the sharp edges - but I already cut myself  Roll Eyes  It's worth it.  It's already on my wall now.  Thank you soooo freaking much!

Here goes!

This thing is just so cool!  You're so flippin' creative I love it!  Grin

46  Re: Baby French Octopi in Knitting: Completed Projects by spurtiic on: March 10, 2006 08:54:28 AM
I just got back from a week-long trip to France on Sunday.  Sadly, I saw no octopi, but those are still really cute.  Did you use i-cord legs?  I love Huit's beret... they are too cute!

In case you're wondering, yes, France is AMAZING.

Okay, done.

(Okay, not done:  This is me at Palais des Papes in Avignon.

Now I'm done.)

heh.. you're adorable.

47  Could I sell this? (2 pics of necklace) in Get Product and Website Opinions by spurtiic on: March 09, 2006 09:45:45 PM
So, Inna gave me the marvelous idea of the CD necklace here https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=8959.0.
Now my dilemma is that I've worn it for only two days and strangers, friends, and family alike fall in love with it and want one, too.  I don't mind giving them away to family and good friends, but complete strangers...no way.  If possible, I'd like to sell them when people ask for one, but for how much?
One friend says $20, another says $25, and my stepmom says $18 and not to get too greedy.  It costs me $3 to attach a bale and the necklace (cheap) and the scrap CD.  But it also costs me an hour+ of my time.  So what do you guys think?  Should I sell it for cost plus my time or make a bit of a profit?  I'd also like to raise a little money for my church since we're trying to rebuild an entire apartment building for televised services and low-income living for families in need.  I could package it in a little box and a tie a ribbon with a business card on it... you know, all pro like... ha.

Anyway, okay, any comments and ideas are appreciated!

Oh, and my scanner just crapped out on me so I'm currently uinstalling it and reinstalling it and when that is all said and done, I'll have a much better (3rd) pic to post.  So, for now, there are only two:

This is how it hangs...

and here's better detail...

After two solid days of cd-necklace obsession, I finally took a pic.  I bought a bale (sp?) and a silver chain to hang it.  I LOVE it!  My friend assured me it didn't look like an actual cd...he thought it was pretty.

Without further ado...

Grin  It's a tad more green than blue, so I guess the lighting was just bad for the pic.  It's on an 18" silver chain.  I can't wait to make more of these!  These will be super cheap gifts and I bet nobody will be able to figure out what it is.

49  Yet another scarf... but it's speshul--made by me! in Knitting: Completed Projects by spurtiic on: February 15, 2006 10:33:59 PM
So, this is my first knitted item posting and I'm pretty excited.  I didn't follow a pattern except for the one in my head.  This is Yarn Bee Icelandic Jewels (black, obviously).  It's 100% acrylic and has a silk varigated ribbon running through it.  Yay!
Okay, so here's the scarf:

The pic is a tad crappy, so here is an upclose shot of what the yarn looks like.  I LURVE it!

What do you guys think?
