1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Youre Wearing THAT THING?!?! (Spiders and teeth and others!) on: August 21, 2009 07:27:10 AM
So the more I return to this thread, the more I want to do this. Not just the resin the whole spider thing. I think it would be ironic and funny. And also perhaps a way of getting over my extreme phobia. Except I don't think I would like his legs touching me. (eek baby steps!)

I was thinking to soften up the spider look for me, to add some flowers or something cute to help ease my mind of the thought of the spider around my neck. Did your flowers change colors after all? How do you seal them so they won't?

Hey what if I give the spider jewelry? Like put seed beads on his legs. Haha silly. I don't actually think I could touch it that much. If I do this I figure I will do it with tweezers. First I have to find a dead spider and buy the right resin.  Grin

seed beads!!! thatd be a fantastic idea!!

With the dried flowers i had, i actually took them off longlonglong dead
boquets i had laying around. they had dried and magically retained most
of their color. I didnt seal them, although if I tried this again Id coat
them with clear nail polish :] my favorite, I do a layer over the cured resin
too to make it look a little clearer.

However, I did talk to another lady who had put flowers in her resin, and
they had been sitting around for YEARS. Eventually the color and the flower
its self sort of disintegrated! she said they were still visible but you had
to look a little closer. But since it takes "years" for this process to
happen, im not too concerned.

Just make sure the flowers are absolutely dry to the touch. IVe
put ones in before that were less than finished, and they DID lose
their color as it cured.

Those are some neat necklaces...As I was reading a dragonfly came flying in..It's cool cause she looks GOLD..Never saw a gold one before..I DO have pet spiders hanging around and I'm trying to figure out how to get dragonfly out without her flying into the web.. Shocked
The ONLY REASON we keep these spiders around is we saw them when they were babies and watching them grow up... Wink

aww thats precious!! the spiders here i only keep around
cause id rather have them than millions of tiny little eensy
bugs i can hardly see zipping around my lightbulb!!

i saw easy cast at hobby when i went the last time, they didnt have it when i bought the other stuff. but they hand another brand too, cant remember the name. it was more expensive but i think cuz it was better, or so it said on the box. haha Smiley

im sure it is better Wink but personally all the
positives for easy cast outweigh the negatives of it.
If i had to deal with the smelly stench of a normal
resin in this little apartment...

well i dont think id bother at all, haha

These are really impressive! Hey, did you find the creatures in the troll market in Hellboy II a lot of fun too? Heh, just curious! I could totally see your creature living happily alongside any of del Toro's, which is the highest praise I can offer!

Also I really appreciate seeing so many photos of your work in various stages - I always find in process work to be fascinating/inspirational.
oh gosh, thank you so much :] you know now that you mention it!!
when i first started the class we had a one day project to create
a maquette (just a little statue) of a "bug/man" and I made a "flyguy"
with the tubey snout and tongue, normal eyes, and goggles, along
with a delicious six man, haha.

and he commented on it and said out of all of the sculptures, he could
see this creation designed for a movie such as hellyboy, or one of
a fantasy nature, rather than the "cartoons" and kid shows that the
other sculptures "fit into".

so believe me, this is wonderfulwonderful to hear!!!
thank you again!

Erf we just found a HUGE dead wolf spider in the bathroom...

I flushed him Tongue

But great job!

LOL that made me laugh so hard!

if i see a spider, i go running in the other direction, no matter how small. you sure are adventerous in my eyes to do this and then wear it. i really want to do resin but i bought the wrong kind stupid me! i was too excited and got casting not clear. waa waa

i admire your courage to work with a spider! Grin

haha thankyou!
I bought easy cast, which comes out clear and it comes
with a 1:1 ratio, you know? So its simple, it doesnt stink
much at all, but the only downside to it personally is that
its kinda plasticy to me. id like it if it were harder, looked
more durable, cause easy cast can get a teensy bit

good luck though!!

She said it in her first post, actually.

I wasn't attacking you, just the italics was a bit over the top.  And saying (ordering?) others to comply with your wishes isn't actually just expressing your opinion.  I'll stay out of this thread from now on, so I don't bother you.

i appreciate your passion for this whole thing, its admirable
to see such flame in your posts, but we'll just let bygones
be bygones. Everyone has different ways of handling things,
some are more passive, aggresive, stern, blunt, compromising,
and even moreso everyone knows what its like to be in a
battle that you just cant win, haha.

not to say theres a battle at all, but...
Youre right, lets just drop the whole thing.
The point is, is that no insects were harmed in this piece, or
murdered for the sake of art. Thats all that matters here. :]

While I must admit spiders creep me right out, that is one amazing looking pendant!

I could never have done it as I couldn't have stood to even go near it much less fiddle with it to make it look so 'good'. I have an issue with spiders.. as long as they are no where near my personal space (and that includes the ceiling) we are fine.  Grin

The flowers are lovely and the teeth is such a great idea! I wish I'd thought of that when my dog lost his puppy fangs.

I have resin I guess I just have to find something cool to embed in it now. (I bought it to make LED lit zydrate vials for a Repo! The Genetic Opera Road Tour 2 and have almost a whole can of the stuff left)

haha i think the worst part personalyl for me WAS just the
moving the legs about to keep them neat. it felt so.. strange
and like i was tampering with something... poking a carcass
with a stick :[

but hey, GO FOR IT!
resin is a lot of fun to work with, and not many
people use it as a medium, so theres always some
ooos and ahhhs among your family and friends :]
