22  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / book tree decorations on: November 14, 2016 09:43:13 AM
made these for a fellow book fiend Grin but these would be fun for the potter fan in your life  Wink

i scrunched up a bit of kitchen foil and flattened it out again and rolled it over the clay to get a leatherish look. the pages are made from both thick and thin sheets of off white clay,  marked  with a knife.
the gold binding is thin strips from a very thin sheet of golg clay but you could paint it instead.

i added picture frame screw eyes to hang  them by at crazy angles to make them look like they are flying around the tree

i know its a little early for some   Wink
i had to put away my large or breakable glass ornaments and my tree is going to look bare without them so i have been making some clay ones.

a few years ago i received some fab bottle trees from Cackle in a swap and they were the inspiration for these (you can see those here: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=436989.40 ) . i kept the square shape and loosely stuck to a red, green and gold theme.
these are hollow and measure about 11/4 inches square so they wont bend the branches of even our tiny tree. i made a base from scrap clay and covered them with a variety of cane slices.

here is the original holly cane. once reduced i positioned slices on a cream sheet of clay. the berries are a second cane and the stems are made from thin rolled snakes of scrap green clay. once i was happy i rolled the sheet smooth and covered the scrap clay box armature

the pudding  Grin

i added a cascade of holly leaves made from thick slices from the holly cane. i used a ripple blade to get rid of the translucent clay around the leaf. the berry is a glass bead.

the second wren decoration has a foil crown made from the upside down foil cap from a broken bauble. it refers to the celtic legend of how the wren beats the eagle to become the king of the birds.

it breaks away from the red, green, gold theme but it wouldn't be MY tree with out my favorite birds  Grin
