22  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Knit 1 beaded helmet. on: March 31, 2008 08:44:50 AM
Aww thanks, peoples! It's a pattern from the Fall 2007 issue of knit !.
I think I was very determined to have such a hat- I started, messed up and started over at least 6 times at the begining. But once i got the hang of it- it was pretty fast.
Also you just string 250 beads at a time, use them up, cut your yarn and string some more.
Now I'm actually thinking of doing one with faux pearls, I think it might look flapper-ish.

This hat will be part of a space girl outfit. I'm working on the bikini now. I'm also planning on making a matching beaded holster for my zap-zap ray gun.

There are like 1100 acrylic pony beads!

It's the first non-scarf knitting project I've finished. It's actually the reason I started knitting. I kind of love it. What do you think?

Those are some really awesome stools and i wish my grandfather had bought them from a bar in the 1920's.

Thanks! I realize now that commas are in the pattern for a reason. Doh!
26  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Beaded helmet Fall 07 knit one on: February 27, 2008 05:25:46 PM
So I'm making the beaded helmet from the fall issue of knit 1. It's pretty sweet-like a retro space girl hat.
This is the first knitting in the round project i've done so maybe i'm missing something but the directions say:
with dpns, cast on 12 sts and divide evenly over 4 needles. Place marker and join for knitting in the round. K 1 round.
Rnd 2 and all even rounds *K1, k1-bead; rep from * around.
Rnd 3 *k1 tbl, kfb; rep from* around---18 sts.
How is it i keep only having 16 stitches at this point? does joining for knitting in the round somehow make 2 extra stitches?
Please help! I really need a space girl hat.

Oh good lord. I have just been sanding all week as well! If I had to do the walls as well i would be completely Bonkers. Like bat shit crazy. Seriously. Congratulations on having a space you love now!
28  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: Washboard, Pop art Picture thing-er. I really have no idea! on: February 12, 2008 09:24:27 PM
I just saw a tutorial on how to do this. I'm assuming it's the kind that has 3 different scenes depending on where you are standing. On a second look, perhaps this one only shows two pictures.
looking, looking...
Found it! If you can get a hold of Craft Magazine's 5th issue (try the library) there is a good tutorial  on making something similar. Their version is a mirror straight on and a different image for each side view.
The version you have a link to just takes away the straight on view by using pleated paper instead of paper slats. Hope that makes sense.
Oh and Craft didn't really know what to call it either. Op art illusion mirror sounds about right.
29  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: Gothic boudoir, limited space, on a budget on: February 12, 2008 09:11:01 PM
I don't know about adding drawers, but you could always use baskets or tubs the same color as the frame, to fit in the space underneath. This seems like a simpler idea unless you are a good carpenter.

Hey i'm almost done (2 months later, but anyway) I am confused about the sleeve ribbing.
