i love the ballet slipper stocking! my daughter is doing irish dancing and you have inspired me to make a cute stocking for her (pretty much just need to change the pink to black, and a few extra ties around the foot!)

thanks heaps, keep up the good work!
673  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: What kind of fabric to use for a stocking? on: August 06, 2009 09:51:24 AM
It would work. As it is a knit fabric, I would interface it so it holds its shape better - you dont want it stretching out of shape when you put the pressies in!

I would love to see a pic when you have made it!
674  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Christmas 2009, what are you making? on: August 06, 2009 09:46:39 AM
i love the address book idea! We only see my family at Christmas, so about 20 ppl total!

ideas do far...

mum : cross-stitch (have been working on a handful of samplers all year- my in-front-of-tv projects :)and maybe a quilt
dad : scottish background, so anything with family tartan or crest on will do... prob some kind of embroidery
sister : winemaker, single, early thirties... black and red quilt with asian inspired embroidery, kimono cross stitch and maybe more - she's taking us all to thailand in october so i better give her something nice this year!
brother : decorated wine glasses and charms
brothers wife : lump of coal (nah... too hard to find!) umm maybe some decorated tea towels (and prob one of the cross stitch's)
niece (18mths) : cupcake quilt Smiley

hubby : still thinking ...
ds 9 : store bought crap, and maybe a couple of cushions for his bedroom
dd 7 : waaay too easy, handmade bags and stuffies..prob make a few extra for her fav gf's too :0)

will prob make some ornaments and small items for the cousins and their families

i need some ideas for the chrissy cards? last year the kids and i did cute fingerprint reindeer and sleighs, but im having a mental blank right now and cant think of anything  to put on this years! have about 50 on the list...so not too many.. ideas welcome!

The bias tape will definately give you a better finish than the ribbon, as it is designed to stretch a little to go around curves.

Have you thought about maybe just adding a decorative trim? like a coloured ric-rac (?)

677  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Hand Quilt or Machine Quilt? on: July 15, 2009 10:50:55 PM
Thanks for the tips! Might be my next in-front-of-tv project with some hand quilting (always need more practise with that!)
678  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Hand Quilt or Machine Quilt? on: July 13, 2009 12:10:11 AM
Im in the process of embroidering a quilt top, and still unsure whether to hand quilt it or do it by machine...

I have already drawn the quilting design on the fabric - think wholecloth pattern, just with a few butterflies thrown on for a bit of colour.

I do enjoy the hand quilting, but find that if I give someone an item that IS hand quilted, they tend not to use it and would rather keep it as an 'heirloom' etc.

The other option is to quilt by machine, prob a bit quicker and more chance the recipient would use it! BUT i tend to get puckers in my backing fabric and I spend a lot of time unpicking!

Any thoughts?

(here is link to photo - I'm still new here Smiley
679  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / what I've been working on lately on: July 12, 2009 01:43:29 AM
This is my first ever post on craftster, can't believe I haven't joined earlier!

I have been mainly doing cupcake quilts lately, made one then of course everybody wants one! The blocks are machine embroidered with 2 1/2" sashing in between.

(pictures are in my gallery)

The yellow/pink one features 'sunbonnet girls' in the corners and has a lavender outer border.

Im thinking I need a new subject, maybe butterflies!!
