1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Kentucky Derby on: November 08, 2011 01:24:22 PM

My family has always joked that my big dog is a horse, so when I had my son, of course they joked that he will ride her.  I was inspired by that this Halloween and created a family costume theme that included our dog as a horse.
  • For the Jockey: I crocheted the jockey helmet and threaded the straps of a pair of sun goggles between the stitches. For his boots, I just pulled black socks up over the bottoms of his pant legs.
  • For the Bookie: I created his vest from an old tee shirt and some buttons I had laying around.  The betting slips in his pocket are old receipts that I sewed to the front of the shirt.
  • For the Horse: I used some light brown fleece to make a saddle that attached to her harness.
  • For the spectator: I added a bunch of fake flowers and leaves to a large sun hat.
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Snowy Balloon Ornament Problems on: November 08, 2011 01:21:32 PM
Maybe try using a sugar solution like my grandmother used to use on crocheted snowflakes?  I'm not sure the recipe, but I think it would work

Really awesome!
Like someone else mentioned check boots and shoes, also, check the toilet tank, for some reason that is where she went almost every time she got out.
6  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Bagel Recipes? on: August 04, 2009 09:24:49 AM
I know this is a little old, but I stumbled on it looking for a recipe for blueberry bagels. (I know, not a traditional flavor but it was requested and has now been taken up as a challenge.)
I use the recipe from the Julia Child's episode, it is wonderful; I only make one modification to it, I allow a 1/4 rise between shaping and boiling usually 10-20 minutes.  Also, its nice because you can watch the episode online and I am very visual.
