1  Super simple snack bags in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by gekkogirl on: March 01, 2011 02:30:01 PM
If I take an entire packet of biscuits in the car I'll eat them all! But, if I split it into little portions I'll not be the size of a house by the time the holiday starts Smiley
But I also don't want to be sewing myself into a migraine whilst trying to pack too.

So the super simple snack bag was born.
Plastic lined (for easy wipe clean) and with a window to remind me of the goodies within!

I used some left over clear plastic from a table cloth protector.

Inevitably a full tutorial is on my bloggy blog blog http://littleblackteapot.blogspot.com

2  Baby stuffed Dino in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by gekkogirl on: February 17, 2011 05:19:49 AM
A very good friendy is very inconsiderately having a baby across the world from me. To make myself feel better (since I can't afford to visit them) I'm crafting like a mad thing.
From this mania was born:

I heart him!
He's all from stash but his eyes are from shrink plastic which are sewn on like buttons thanks to a hot needle to make the holes.

Also- did you know its incorrect to call this kind of dino a brontosaurus? there is no such dino anymore. this is more closley a diplodocus of the apatosuarus(es). Husband and I had a wikipedia battle over it when I erroneously called him a bronto when he was done!  Cheesy

and inevitably- www.littleblackteapot.blogspot.com my bloggy blog blog

3  Re: I <3 Gibbous Altered Fashions sew-along! in Clothing Sewalongs by gekkogirl on: September 13, 2010 02:43:22 PM
Oooh! I've been lurking around and admiring this theme of threads for so long. The items are so mouthwateringly beautiful. And finally two Saturdays ago I got to try the style out for myself. I volunteer for Oxfam at a new Reworked for Oxfam store in Reading UK. The idea is that we take some of their thrift clothes and alter them to try and sell. Sometimes this is just a simple change of buttons or hemming a little but SOMETIMES you can take a slightly stained white and boring corset and go bananas! All the lace and ribbon was donated.
This free and loose method is really not easy for me so I still couldn't manage the "floatiness" of some of the beautiful garments here but I'm closer!

The front- I'm especially in love with the heart

Thanks for all the great inspiration and advice is very much appreciated!

4  50s inspired jersey skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by gekkogirl on: August 22, 2010 11:06:52 AM

Loving the ease of jersey knit- not very many seams etc and its very forgiving of my "as quick as I can" sewing method!
I really wanted to make a bit of a "poodle skirt" but I realise I would never wear one. But I would wear an inspired one! Yay! for hearts and polka dots!

Yikes! shoulda made sure I had removed all the threads from my frantic unpicking when I sewed the edging the wrong way round!  Cheesy

5  Single Sock Puppy, Dino & Kitty in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by gekkogirl on: August 22, 2010 10:59:30 AM

I love making these guys because they are so quick and super soft and cuddly. The dialogue is provided with love by my dh. He and I had "creative differences" over the kitty's tail, so i had to let him have this input  Cheesy.

<modify> Here's the kitty tail! I like it but he thought it was too fat or something, although NOW he says its grown on him *giggle* Roll Eyes

Thanks for encouraging comments!

6  Scrap Cat and Sock Pup in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by gekkogirl on: April 14, 2010 10:55:32 AM
Spring has come to the UK and this years bountiful crop of babies means a huge amount of present crafting for me.
Before they go to their new homes (and whilst my fingers heal Smiley ) here are Sock Pup and Scrap Cat.

and because I am waaaaay too in love with his bottom *ahem* I mean, tail:

Scrap cat is for a new baby whose mom loves cottagey shabby chic. I loved how I could use tiny bits of fabric that were left from other larger projects to create a new fabric. I don't quilt because the measuring and accuracy required frighten the ..... out of me  Roll Eyes, but this random attaching of triangles is exactly my sewing/brain style.

Time to wrap 'em up before I get attached...  Cry

8  Family Photo Advent (Photo podgy) in Winter Holidays by gekkogirl on: December 09, 2009 01:02:17 PM
I made this for friends of mine who have moved across the seas and miss their family back home- especially  during the festive season! Its also supposed to be light weight to be able to travel wherever they find themselves next...
Onto photos:

Each of the fabric "frames" has a pouch behind to hold treats for advent. I'm thinking they can put family photos in the frames and think of each family member specially on that day. Or they could cut up Christmas cards for the spaces. The photos in the frames now are courtesy of a Cooperative magazine Smiley. Also- each of those frames is different fabric- it was a mad scrabble to find 25 different types, good grief!

and it rolls up!

Thanks to all the other advent calendars for inspiration!

10  Recycled fused plastic bags in Completed Projects by gekkogirl on: October 17, 2009 04:19:24 AM
So I suspect I may be super late to this craft idea but thanks to a genius post on Threadbanger I found out you can fuse plain shopping bags into a thicker plastic which can actually be sewn or crafted.

I made some gift bags for christmas (start early, stress less- right? RIGHT?) and some sheets to use for wrapping odd bits. It was super fun but I did melt some bits too much and some too little. I like how they came out because they have a texture very much like paper and they look a bit like it too but are good for the planet and could be reused by the peeps I give them too.

Hopefully this inspires you!
